Barry Watson McLarty

Gales Ferry - Barry Watson McLarty, 67, of Gales Ferry, passed away peacefully from a stroke while riding his motorcycle, with the wind in his hair as the angels gently took him. Barry was a beloved figure in his community, often seen walking, cycling, or cruising on his motorcycle. He was known for his generosity, regularly mowing neighbors' lawns and maintaining the cemetery on Whalehead Road.

For many years, Barry was the primary caregiver for his parents and his brothers. He had a wide range of interests, including cooking, gardening, and woodworking. He spent countless hours in the workshop with his father, creating beautiful wooden pieces. A devout Christian, Barry read his Bible daily and shared his faith with everyone he met.

Barry is survived by his brother Donald McLarty; his sisters, Madeline Scarratt and her fiancé Russ DiNoto, Eileen Stephens and her husband Gary, and Christine Nieto and her husband Steve; as well as many nieces and nephews who cherished him dearly. He was predeceased by his brother Douglas; his sister Jeri Grudier; his brother Brian; and his parents, Theodora and Donald. His beloved dog Rocky's ashes will rest beside him.

A funeral service will be held in his honor at 10 a.m. Aug. 11, at Lady of Lourdes Church in Gales Ferry, followed by burial at Gales Ferry Cemetery and a Celebration of Life at the church hall.
