Bob Arremony Obituary

Plainfield - Bob Arremony, the son of the late John and Norma (Kerr) Arremony, passed away Jan. 16, 2024, at Hartford Hospital. He was born in Heidelberg, Germany, Sept. 18, 1955.

Bob is survived by his brother Rick Arremony and his wife Dawn; and his sister Sherry Mandeville and her husband Bruce. He is also survived by three nieces, Stephanie Efthimiou, Jessica Sherman and Rachel Guisti.

Bob is remembered for the impact he has made on so many lives through the world of sports. He was a three-sport star athlete at Griswold High School where he earned first team All-State in basketball and played shortstop for the 1974 State Championship baseball team. He went on to play four years of both basketball and baseball at Southern Connecticut State University. He was a longtime physical education teacher and an athletic director at Plainfield High School. But it's in his years of coaching where his legacy will be remembered.

Bob became the head coach for the Plainfield Panthers boys varsity basketball team shorty after graduating from college and remained there for 43 years until his retirement just one year ago. He ranks tenth on the CIAC all-time wins list, finishing his career with an astounding 555 wins. He coached Griswold High School softball and travel softball for more than two decades alongside his brother Rick, where he was affectionately known as "Uncle Bob" to the players and parents. He coached American Legion Baseball for 17 years and founded the Plainfield girls volleyball in 2007 and coached it for 16 years.

Five years ago, Bob began attending church after being invited by his niece. In his final years, Bob found joy in reading his Bible and growing closer to Jesus. It brings his family peace knowing that this world is not our home, and that Bob is in the presence of his Heavenly Father.

Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, at the Gagne-Piechowski Funeral Home in Griswold. Bob's Celebration of Life will be held from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, at Jacques Cartier Club in Jewett City. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Plainfield Athletics Department, 105 Putnam Road, Central Village, and/or the Griswold Athletics Department, 267 Slater Avenue, Jewett City.

Bob "bony" Arremony and I played little league and senior league all-star baseball together in Jewett City. He was an exceptional athlete and a better teammate! Even though we drifted apart (I went to NFA), I always followed his career on the Norwich Bulletin website. Always flashed that great smile.

Bob, a Coach for all Seasons. Teams that play hard and well are the best representations of all you did. I enjoyed our years coaching Boys and Girls Basketball at PHS in the 80's and against you in Softball at Griswold in later years. Thanks for your support of Women's Sports. May you rest in peace knowing all that you have done for thousands of student-athletes you have reached.

Bobby was my baseball teammate at SCSC in the 70's. We crossed paths frequently during basketball camps and games. I'm so saddened by this news. What a great solid person and tough competitor, he was a winner in all areas of his life. Never let his success go to his head. Hearing he developed a relationship with Jesus is very comforting. We believers know the fate of our future. Knowing in the future I will see my SCSC buddy again does not make the sadness go away, but it does fill the void left behind in not seeing him around the gymnasium during BB games. To his family and friends, so sorry for your loss.

Bob, may you rest in Peace.
Your demand for perfection as a Coach made me a better official in Baseball & Basketball. I realized that working for you and your players one had to be at the top of their game before taking the court or the field. I thank you for that.
I also realized later in my career that there was much more to that hard exterior of a man. One who cared deeply about his players & students.

My condolences to the Family and may you have fond memories to cling to in this hour of grief.
