Christine Laverty Obituary

Norwich - Christine Marie "Chris" Laverty, of Norwich passed away Monday, Jan. 11, 2021. She transitioned peacefully at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital with her husband and children by her side. She was born in Portsmouth, Va. Oct. 8, 1954. She was predeceased by her parents, Benjamin J. Costick Sr., and Rosemarie A. Costick.

Chris grew up in Ledyard and graduated from Ledyard High School in 1972. She completed her master's degree in educational technology at Eastern Connecticut State University and was proud to have taught in the Community College system. Her professional career spanned 31 years with the State of Connecticut, retiring in December of 2009.

Chris married Bernard F. Laverty Feb. 21, 1976, in Gales Ferry, at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. They were blessed to be the 200th couple married in the church in the bicentennial year. She possessed a magnetic personality and was an avid reader who enjoyed her quiet time as well as being the loudest fan on the sidelines of her children's sports games!

She is survived by her husband Barney; three children, Alycin M. Laverty, Kenneth B. Laverty, and Jason M. Laverty (Michelle); three brothers, Barrie F. Costick (Pauline), Bruce S. Costick, and Benjamin J. Costick Jr. She had two grandchildren, Cerina and Savanna Carroll which she adored; as well as many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 22, 2021, at Sacred Heart church in Norwich. A private burial service will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Yale New Haven Hospital Heart and Vascular Center or a charity of your choice.
