He was born April 18, 1928, in North Conway, N.H.
He was the son of the late Daniel Dinsmore Sr. and Hilda (Combe) Dinsmore. He grew up in Dundee, N.H., and attended Parks Aeronautical College in St. Louis, Mo., where he became an aeronautical engineer. Following college he served in the Air Force at the end of World War II. He then returned to Dundee to work on the test program for the Aeronautical Icing and Research Laboratories on the top of Mount Washington.
While on travel for this job, he met his future wife, Marianne Jameson Spencer. They were married on July 28, 1956, in Wichita Falls, Tex.
The test program on Mount Washington ended in 1962, and he moved to Milford, where he worked at Sikorsky Aircraft. He then moved to East Lyme in 1964, and worked at the Underwater Sound Lab in New London for 31 years as a mechanical engineer, applying his aeronautical experience to underwater design, until his retirement in 1993. He retired back to Dundee where he spent many years pursing his passions of restoring vintage aircraft engines, classic cars, model railroads, and flying his ultralight.
He had an avid interest in local history and genealogy. He was active in many local organizations, including the VFW, the Jackson Historical Society, North Conway Masonic Temple, the Mount Washington Valley Old Car Club, the R/C Club, and many local and national aviation groups.
He is survived his by his son, Stephen, daughter-in-law, Denise (Nadeau), and grandson, Brandon Dinsmore, of East Lyme.
His wife, Marianne, predeceased him on Oct. 23, 1992 and a son, Charles Andrew Dinsmore, on Feb. 24, 1965.
