David Cook Obituary

Groton - David Arnold Cook Sr., 90 of Groton, passed away peacefully Tuesday Aug. 27, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, devotion and cherished memories. He was born Feb. 18, 1934, in Buffalo, N.Y., to Charles R. Cook and Lillian Ruhs Cook. David was the beloved husband of 70 years to his devoted wife, Beverly Ackley; she survives him. Their love and partnership were the foundation of their long and joyful marriage.

David's father was in the Coast Guard, growing up he attended 13 different schools in 12 years from Buffalo, N.Y. to Key West, Fla. Early adulthood, he spent his summers on the Poquonnock River where he waterskied with his brother Bob and friends. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and National Guard Reserves and later retired from Pfizer after a fulfilling career.

David was a genius at fixing anything and in his spare time he loved going to auctions where he found great joy in rebuilding and repairing various treasures. His garage was often filled with projects that reflected his creativity and resourcefulness. His strong faith in the Lord guided him throughout his life, evident in his kindness, generosity and dedication to others. David's life was a testament to his faith, his love for his family, and the simple joys he found in everyday life. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Besides his beloved wife Beverly, he is also survived by his daughter Susan Davis and son-in-law Glen; son David Jr. and daughter-in-law Julie; and his son Kevin and daughter-in-law Danielle. He was a loving grandfather to eight grandchildren and a proud great-grandfather to six great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held at noon Thursday, Sept. 5, at Groton Heights Baptist Church, 72 Broad Street, Groton, followed by a church service commencing at 1 p.m. Burial will take place immediately following the service at Smith Lake Cemetery in Groton. Dear Mrs. Cook, Susan, David and Kevin

I admired Mr. Cook from the first time I met him at Kevins shop in Mystic. His knowledge in all things related to mechanical operations were second to none. I spoke about him to my dad (Hub) on a few different occasions and my dad's thoughts were as mine. Much respect !

I am sorry to hear of the passing of Mr. Cook... I remember him from when I was a young child living next door. He fabricated and welded a go-kart for my Dad who gave it to my brothers and I... we had a lot of fun with that driving it around our yard. He and my Dad would talk as he was also a project guy... I know my Dad enjoyed their conversations. Mr. Cook was a hard working and honest man and they don´t make them like that anymore. May he rest in peace.
