Dawn Drake Obituary
Dawn was an artistic soul who enjoyed various forms of crafting and creating floral arrangements. She utilized these skills in some of her earlier careers before finding a path in childcare working at Bright Horizons Pfizer. She found many lifelong friends among her colleagues who continued to be a part of her life after the division closed. From there she moved on to the Groton school system where she worked as a paraeducator.
Dawn was an animal lover, always having cats and dogs as part of her family. Her beloved canine companion Bean was always by her side to comfort her through her final days at home. The true center of Dawns life were her children, son Dale and daughter Kaitlyn. Her proudest accomplishment in life was being a mother to them. Dawn's fondest times were all spent with them, especially enjoying their many trips to southern Maine exploring the beaches and antique shops of the area.
Dawn is survived by her husband Nelson Drake; children, Dale and Kaitlyn Drake; brothers, Timothy (Raimee) Sabrowski, and Christopher (Annie) Sabrowski; nephew Jake Sabrowski; and nieces, Avery and Piper Sabrowski.
A celebration of life with light refreshments will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Montville VFW Hall, 91 Raymond Hill Road, Uncasville.

Sorry I am unable to attend gathering for Dawn. As the Bright Horizon Nurse I had the privilege of working with Dawn. She was so gentle and conscientious.

When I met Dawn we had an instant creative connection! She was my mentor when I started at PfizerKids in 2000. We ended up being very close. When I started a cool project she´d finish it,and it would always be amazing. She encouraged me to get my long hair cut at her hair dressers where we went together often. A year later she took me to Hartford to choose my wedding gown where she chose hers.She made my beautiful flower arrangements for my wedding. Today is Sept. 11 and I will always remember being with her when her mom called our room to tell us of the tragedy! We hugged and comforted each other that day. Over the years we drifted apart but a year ago we met for lunch and it was as if no time passed at all! I miss my dear friend and wish we had more time,but I will have my wonderful memories in my heart forever.

My first memory with Dawn was her smile. We were working on the playground at Pleasant Valley and were laughing with the kids. She will be missed.
