Dean Rogers Obituary
He was born in San Diego, Calif. on Aug. 4, 1955. As a youth growing up, Dean lived in several states as the son of a Navy father. Upon his father's retirement from the Navy, he and his family settled in Mystic. Dean attended local schools and was a 1973 graduate of Fitch High School in Groton and was an avid basketball, baseball and softball player.
Dean was a Pipefitter & Shipfitter with Electric Boat for over thirty years. He loved the water, boating, camping, traveling, riding his motorcycle and rooting for his favorite sports teams, the NY Giants and Boston Red Sox.
He is survived by his three siblings, Sheila Rogers Walls (Mike), Mel Rogers (Ethel) and his devoted caregiver and twin brother, Dennis Rogers and his nephews, Jeffrey Walls and Corey Rogers. He also leaves behind his two beloved dogs, Marley and Miles. He was predeceased by his parents, Emery and Louise (Rincicotti) Rogers, his two nephews, Scott Walls and Brett Rogers and his former wife, Terry (Bowser) Rogers.
Dean fought a courageous 10 year battle with 3 different cancers. His family would like to thank all of the medical staff at Hartford Hospital, L&M Hospital, New London Cancer Center and the Westerly Hospital wound clinic for their help, care and support given to Dean. He never gave up, with his strong desire to live. His strong faith and determination helped him to carry on.
Services will be private. A burial will be held privately at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Mystic.
The Mystic Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Loved this guy and his family! He worked hard and he played hard and would always give you the shirt off of his back. He was as tough as nails on the baseball diamond and had a heart of gold when the game was over. He was a heck of a 2nd baseman in the EB Industrial League and everyone knew if you were going from 1st to 2nd and had aspirations of breaking up a double play by taking Dean out....the smarter choice would have been to simply lay down. The obituary for Dean is beautiful. He suffered so much and is a real hero. He touched many lives and openly expressed his love for everyone. He cherished his family and friends. He will be missed more than words could ever say. I love you Dean. Got bless you!!!

I'm very sorry to hear this. I haven't spoken to Dean since high school, but the memory of our bike trip to New Hampshire together is something that remains vivid and fresh in my mind. That opportunity will never be forgotten and I really enjoyed his companionship on the trip. For a couple of 15 year old kids, we had a lot of guts. My thoughts and prayers to the entire family. We will always remember Dean fondly for his unique sense of humor, sharp wit, and great laugh during all those ball games at Butler school. Dean always lived with gusto whether at work or at play on one of his many motorcycles or boating out to FI/LI/BI. It's of no surprise that he kept up the good fight for as long as he did thanks to all of your help and encouragement. May those many great memories bring you a smile during this difficult time. To Dean's Family,
I worked with Dean at EB and bought my first boat from him in the early 80's. I started docking at Palmer's Cove Mariner because of his family connection and have had a boat docked there ever since.He was a great guy and I'm sad to read of his passing.
