Dorothy Huber Obituary

Groton - Dorothy A. "Dot" (Lapsley) Huber passed peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family Nov. 29, 2021. Dot was born in Boston, Mass., to John and Gladys Lapsley (Rooney).

She grew up in Roxbury, and was valedictorian of her high school class. She met the love of her life, Paul C. Huber, at a coffee shop and they married in 1950. Dot and Paul were together for 67 happy years. They had eight children, fifteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. After lovingly raising her family, Dot went on to earn her associate's degree and then launched into a very successful career as a real estate agent. Dot was known for her hard work and dedication to finding the best for her clients. Most of all, she was dedicated to lovingly supporting her ever growing family. Everyone looked forward to her Christmas Eve birthday celebration. Dot truly enjoyed being with family and friends. Dot was a communicant at St. Mary Mother of the Redeemer since 1965, and with Paul, helped counsel Pre-Cana couples at the church. Dot also served as a "buddy" to students at Noank Elementary School. She was a fan of UCONN sports and her beloved Boston teams - the Sox, Celtics and Bruins. She was delighted to see them all win championships. Dot loved to read and discuss books, attend Broadway shows, shop and dance with her husband.

Dot is survived by her children: Dottie Hoyt and husband Richard of Groton, Gerard Huber of Mystic, Janice Bacewicz and husband Joseph of Tolland, Patricia Friar and husband Timothy of Groton; daughter-in-law Nancy Huber of Reston, Va., Pamela Villari of Groton, Bernadette Waterman and husband Todd of Lakewood Ranch, Fla., and David Huber and wife Diann of Mystic; also by her grandchildren: Richard and John Hoyt, Joseph Bacewicz, Sarah Helms, Paul, Anne and Sarah Huber, Christine and Catherine Friar, Leo Villari, Andrea, Todd and Danielle Waterman, Cory Calamari and Alexandria Huber; and great-grandchildren: Amelia, Avery and Violet Hoyt, Dorothy, Ada, and Edith Helms, Madeline and Isla Huber. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband Paul; son Paul G. Huber; and brothers, Jack and Paul Lapsley. Dot will be greatly missed by her loving family and dear friends. Her warm smile emanated love to all who knew her.

Dot's family would especially like to thank Mpume Nompumelelo Mbatha, "Mae," for her dedicated service and loving care. Mae's gentle and patient demeanor combined with her expertise, made a positive impact in Dorothy's life. Mae was a blessing to the entire family.

Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10, at the Mystic Funeral Home, located on Route 1 in Mystic. For those entering the funeral home, all will be required to wear a mask. A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 11, at St. Mary Mother of the Redeemer Catholic Church, 69 Groton Long Point Road, Groton. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery, Mystic.

As I live in VA now, I just learned of your mom's death. A favorite time was when we traveled to Las Vegas for a real estate conference and flew to the Grand Canyon. Dot was a delightful person. To her family, you have my deepest sympathy
