Douglas Randolph Obituary

Lake Worth, Fla. - Douglas Wayne "Doug" Randolph passed away Aug. 18, 2022. Born Sept. 4, 1954, in Honolulu, Hawaii, Doug grew up in Montville. At the age of 16, he was a fire cadet and was commended by the town of Montville for his heroism, when he entered a burning building to rescue a child trapped on the second floor.

Doug played basketball for Montville High School and college basketball for his alma mater St. Anselm College in New Hampshire. He entered the U.S. Marine Corps and attained the rank of first lieutenant before his honorable discharge. After living in California for some time, Doug became a longtime resident of Florida. There Doug touched many lives as an American Red Cross HIV youth coordinator, peer educator trainer and Florida health program analyst. He was named Children's Hero in 2003, by Palm Beach County. Doug was instrumental in bringing life-saving medications to Palm Beach County residents. He was a Sunday school teacher, vestry member, Way Café volunteer and choir member at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Lake Worth Beach, Fla. Doug loved scuba diving, skydiving, going to the beach and was actively involved as a resident of the Lake Worth Towers.

He is survived by his brothers, Dennis (Christine) of Chantilly, Va., and Ronald (Teresa) of Montville; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Doug always had a smile or joke, no matter what struggles life threw at him. He was an amazing brother and friend, and is missed. A private burial will be held.

My condolences to the Randolf family. I knew Doug from CT and was coincidentally reacquainted years later when he was selected to join our USSSA/ASA tournament softball team based out of Los Angeles, CA sponsored by the late Dr. Jerry Buss, owner of the Los Angeles Lakers. Doug played first base and outfield and as a star player contributed to many tournament wins including our first divisional title in the 1985 Western Divisional Tournament held in Orange County, CA. Doug was awarded All-Tournament honors for his efforts. In all he played with us for 3 long seasons in our leagues and tournament play. He was a great guy both on and off the field and a lot of fun, especially when we would travel to Las Vegas for some of our most major tournaments. I am sure Doug will be missed by many. RIP my friend.
