She was born Sept. 30, 1938, in Otterberg, Germany, the daughter of the late Johan and Elisabeth (Welka) Jung.

A blind date in the spring of 1955 resulted in a 55 year plus marriage to Paul Grohocki on Nov. 17, 1956, at the Ramstein Air Force Base Chapel. He survives her.

She loved gardening, flowers, and birds, knitting, cooking, and spending time with her grandchildren who she adored.

In addition to her mother and father, she was predeceased by a special aunt, Helen Grohocki of Quaker Hill and uncle, Edward Grohocki of New London.

Elfriede's family would like to extend their thanks to the caregivers at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital Unit 5.2. for their caring and compassionate care.

Our heartfelt sympathy to all who loved her. She was a dear friend and good neighbor to us for well over thirty years. We will miss coffee at the kitchen table and visits over the fence on sunny days. She loved kids and we thank her for being so good to ours as they were growing up next door. We are grateful she lived to see the hummingbirds return and the spring flowers she loved. Were here for you Paul. Sincerely, the Castle Family Don, Bette, Jim and Pam.
