Elizabeth Lanier Obituary

Groton - Elizabeth (Brown) Lanier, 66, of Noank, wife of Terrence "Terry" Lanier, died Thursday, June 25, 2015.

Born in New London, she was the daughter of the late Curtis P. Brown Sr. and Gertrude Brown and lived in Noank for most of her life.

A graduate of Stonington High School, she worked in retail spending 20 years at Youth Colony in Groton. She enjoyed being a Navy wife, having the chance to travel with her husband for many years.

In addition to her husband, she leaves a son, John C. Lanier of Noank; two sisters, Marylin Riley and Barbara Wheeler, both of Stonington; a brother, Curtis P. Brown Jr. of California; and two beloved granddaughters, Megan Elizabeth Lanier and Emily Ann Becker; along with many nieces and nephews.

Her family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 2, at the Mystic Funeral Home, Route 1, Mystic. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a Cancer Society of one's choice.

Nick and I were so sad to hear of Elizabeth's passing. She was a fine, gentle woman who I remember bringing my girls to shop at Youth Colony and she was always so helpful and generous with her time. She is now united with her beloved parents. We will hold you in our thoughts and prayers.

We were classmates at SHS; but I got to know Liz only later at reunion meetings. A classy individual - she brightened everyone's day. Enjoyed so much knowing her and so sorry to hear of her passing. I extend sincere condolences to the family and friends of the girl I knew as Elizabeth Brown. Seems like I heard her name called by every teacher I had in every classroom I entered. She lived well and deserves her eternal and peaceful rest.
