Eloise Stephens Obituary

Eloise Harrington M. Stephens It is with great sorrow that her family and friends mark the passing of Eloise Stephens. A native of Raleigh, Eloise was the daughter of the late Harry Greene Harrington and Margaret Mills Beine Harrington. She was preceded in death by her sister Margaret Harrington Fletcher and husbands Alexander Carlton MacDonald and Wake Thomas Stephens. Eloise was a graduate of Peace College and retired from the U.S. Geological Survey. A member of Hayes Barton Baptist Church, she was the last surviving charter member. She will be remembered for her love of life, gracious and giving spirit and keen wit. Eloise is survived by her daughters Mrs. Walter Jackson Early of Rocky Mount and Mrs. Maude McConnell and husband Carl of Cary; grandchildren Walter Jackson Early, Jr. of New York, NY, Thomas Sanderlin Owens and his wife Vicci of Hendersonville, NC, Mrs. Carlene Turrow and husband Randy of Malibu Beach, CA, Mrs. Ginny Early Sherrod of Hampstead, NC, Mrs. Traie Owens Walkley and husband Charles of Wake Forest and Mrs. Elizabeth Early Scott and husband Darin of Rocky Mount; step- grandchildren, Eddie McConnell and Sara Martin, seven great grandchildren, and one step- great grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM , Wednesday, July 8 at Hayes Barton Baptist Church, Raleigh, officiated by Dr. David Hailey. A private burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, one hour prior to the service from 1-2 in the church parlor. The family wishes to extend their deepest appreciation to her physician Dr. Wells Edmundson for his compassion and excellent care and to her caregivers Florencia Perez Gonzales and Alba Coronilla for their devoted caregiving. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Eloise's memory can be made to Hospice of Wake County, 1300 Saint Mary's Street, Raleigh, or Hayes Barton Baptist Church. My mother recently died at age 98, and I share the loss with you.
