Ernest Greenwood Obituary

Westerly - Ernest A. Greenwood, 92, of 7 Simms St., Westerly, died peacefully on Sunday, Nov. 19, 2006, at South Kingstown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was the beloved husband of Janice (Burns) Greenwood and the late Hazel "Sunny" (Williams) Greenwood.

Born in Westerly, R.I., on June 17, 1914, he was the son of the late Fred and Adelaide (Wilson) Greenwood.

Mr. Greenwood was employed at C.B. Cottrell Company and Harris Graphics for over 30 years before his retirement and was a member of the Harris Quarter Century Club. He also was a loyal and dedicated employee of the Buckler-Johnston and Avery Funeral Homes for over 25 years.

Ernie was a life member of the Pawcatuck Fire Company #1 and was past captain. He was a member for over 64 years of the Pawcatuck Masonic Lodge #90 and the Westerly Elks Club.

Mr. Greenwood was in the Civilian Conservation Corps. An avid golfer, he was a member of the former Pondview Golf Club for many years.

Besides his wife, he leaves his two children, Ernest A. Greenwood of Pawcatuck and Pamela L. Santos of Pawcatuck and two stepsons, Jeffrey Butler of Westerly and Kenneth Butler of Berryville, Va. He also leaves 12 grandchildren, Ryan Santos, Neil Santos, Lori H. Greenwood, Robert Greenwood, Lisa Greenwood, Debbie Kennet, Josh Butler, Kristin Butler, Kelli Butler, Phillip Butler, Lauren Butler, and Jeffrey Butler and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday in the Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St., Westerly. Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. this evening.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Home and Hospice Care of Rhode Island, 169 George St., Pawtucket RI 02862.
