Frank Sussler

Farmington - Frank Sussler was born June 10, 1924, and passed away Oct. 2, 2023, at 99 years of age. He grew up in Norwich, amidst a loving family: his parents, Dr. David and Libby Sussler, and his siblings, who have predeceased him, Robert Morris Sussler and Sally Jean Simon.

After attending Andover and Rollins Colleges, Frank graduated from Boston University with a major in political science and remained an avid and learned amateur historian. He resettled in Norwich where he had an eponymous insurance and real-estate company and, until the dissolution of his first marriage to Rita Lentz, raised his children. His parents had a summer home in Neptune Park in New London, and he loved sailing on Long Island Sound.

Frank subsequently focused on residential and commercial appraisals after moving to Farmington, where he lived with his beloved wife of fifty years, Joan Hall Sussler. Together, they cared for Shetland collie rescues and cultivated a variety of climbing roses. He is survived by his wife Joan; his children, Betsy Ruth Sussler and Robert Andrew Sussler; his stepsons, Anthony Ludwig Fons and Christopher Morgan Fons; numerous nieces and nephews; and seven grandchildren.

Frank's family would like to thank the staff at the Hebrew Center in West Hartford, especially Eric and Pauline, for their exceptional care.

A memorial service followed by a reception in celebration of Franks' life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at St. James Parish, 3 Mountain Road, Farmington. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ukrainian Red Cross, the Connecticut Humane Society, or to the St. James Parish Memorial Fund.
