Gary Kelly Obituary

Old Lyme - Gary R. Kelly, 63, passed away peacefully on Sept. 15, 2017. He was born on Sept. 5, 1954, in Hartford, to Joan (Trott) and the late Robert J. Kelly, residing in Old Lyme. His life was devoted to his business, Kelly's Ice Cream, the "Ice Cream King."

He is survived by his five siblings, Gail Gometz (Ralph), Robin Beckwith (Teddy), Glen Kelly (Marlene), Kathleen Buckridge (Don), and William Kelly. He was predeceased by a brother Dean. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, David and Jeremy (Michele) Gometz, Holly (Brian) and Kevin Beckwith, Joshua, Kaitlyn, and Seth Kelly, and many great nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, and friends.

Gary loved to watch the Red Sox and New York Giants with chicken wings and a Miller Lite in hand.

Services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Donations can be made to "Make a Wish Foundation," on wish.org.

I worked for Gary for 2 summers on the ninja turtle ice cream truck. He was a generous boss that always shared his profits and ice cream with his team. And at the end of a shift you could always find him cheering on or yelling at the Yankees game up in his house. Thanks for the opportunity Gary, rest peacefully.-D. Soda
