George Babcock Obituary

New London - George Curtis Babcock, 88, of New London, entered into eternal rest on Sept. 27, 2014, at home in the presence of his family.

He was born in Norwich, on July 23, 1926. He enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard in 1943 and served in the South Pacific for three years until his honorable discharge.

On Nov. 18, 1950, he married Claire in Hartford. They moved to New London and together they raised two daughters, Judith and Regina.

After 31 years of dedicated service, George retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1983 as superintendent of postal operations from the Stonington Post Office .

In addition to his wife, daughters and their spouses, he is survived by his sister, Doris, and niece, Carol and her family of Florida, and nephew, Peter and his family of Massachusetts.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. l, 2014, at St. Joseph Church in New London. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Mary Cemetery in New London. Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave., New London.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice Care, 227 Dunham St., Norwich, CT 06360 or to a local animal shelter.

top notch ticket collector and a wonderful greeter. George knew a lot of
people and made wonderful contact with the patrons. Great person with

Hi George its me Pee Wee. You and my father worked together at the Speed Bowl. You ran the soda stand and we became good friends. You were a mentor to me. And Judy and I became friends. You always had a smile for everyone. Well I guess you're resting in God's hands now. I'll miss you.
