George Stevenson Obituary
He was born in Middletown on March 9, 1946, to the late Frank and Elsie (Kelsey) Stevenson. George graduated from Old Saybrook High School, class of 1964. During his high school days he worked for Wally's Sunoco in Old Saybrook, and with the Old Saybrook Theatre where he proceeded to have a full-time position. George's first car was a 1956 two-tone Chevy which began his interest in auto mechanics. He also worked at the Theatre in the evening and for the Walter Rochette Company where he gained knowledge of construction, working with his long-time friend, Larry Rochette. He loved carpentry and working with his hands, collecting tools, and attending flea markets. George's longest career was with the Old Saybrook Theatre and moving up to the position of manager for decades. Old Saybrook Theatre, previously owned by Interstate was purchased by Hoyt's in the early 1980s; where George moved on to maintenance for the surrounding theatres, and retiring in 2003. George touched many generations of young people who today still remember him fondly. Our community has lost a great friend.
Besides his wife of 38 years; he is survived by a brother, Thomas; a brother-in-law, James Price and his wife, Lorraine; a sister-in-law, Grace Flora, all of Old Saybrook; nieces and nephews, Kendra of Old Saybrook, Kevin and his wife, Heather of East Haddam, Loreili, Andrea, Seana and Sean of Arizona, Robert and Brenda of Jacksonville, Fla.; along with too many friends to mention.
George is predeceased by his brother, Edward.
Family and friends may visit from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29, 2009, the Swan Funeral Home, 1224 Boston Post Rd. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 30, at Grace Episcopal Church. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery.

I was was so sorry to hear of George's passing. As a kid growing up on Shepard St and, of course, going to the Old Saybrook movie theater, he was always there with a friendly smile or wave. I know he will be missed greatly and remembered warmly. My thoughts are with your family at this difficult time

Aunt Debbie, Uncle Tommy & family...You are in my thoughts and prayers always. I wish I could of been there to say good bye. I am glad for the time I did get to spend awhile ago with Grandma and Uncle George and all of you. I have so many great memories of times in Conn with the family. Uncle George was such a good man. You never really appreciate a simple something until it is gone. The Saturday trip to the dump, a donut and the friendly spirited banter between Justin and George (the Big Guy). A chapter of life in Old Saybrook that will always be remembered. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

We must rejoice in that treasure. I remember all the great times at the theater during the few summers I worked there in the late 70's. I made many good friends, and always went back to visit you and George. You both were always so kind and wonderful to work with. Although I was only in Saybrook for the summers, the theater and those I worked with will always hod fond memories for me. In this world there are very few people who are beyond special, George was one of those few. I have so many fond memories of George - stealing jelly beans from the oola wall at the theatre, walking his dog to the theatre to help brighten our long evenings at work, calling on Christmas day just to say Merry Christmas, and on and on and on. In all the years that I knew George, I have never seen him angry or lose his temper. He might be having trouble fixing something at the theatre, but there was always a smile when someone walked in. He was always trying to make our lives easier. Because of George, I have developed a life-long love for the theatre business. Thank you, George, for leaving me so many happy memories. My heart goes out to the family and know my prayers are with you at this time. I know he loved all of you. If there is anything that you need, please call. I'll be there as soon as possible. God Bless all of you. George, rest in peace - we love you and we will miss you.

Uncle George was my FAVORITE Uncle. Even though it's been a while since we have spoken, when we were kids he was teh coolest ever! Movies, Aunt Debbie's food, Sparky, cool kitchen cubbards, and remodeling his house will always stay in my memories and will forever be cherished. Aunt Debbie has her own special Angel now. Uncle George was always ready to play when we were kids. I will never forget his smile and his voice. ALso the huge bags of popcorn he always brought from the theater I will never forget. Even though we have only known you and George for a short time, you both made us feel like we have been friends for a long time.
