Gregory John Swenson

Cranford, N.J. - Gregory John Swenson of Cranford, N.J. passed away peacefully July 12, 2025, surrounded by his loving family after a short illness. He was 29.

Greg was loved by all those he touched. His easy-going nature was contagious. He was gentle, loving, amazing and one-of-a-kind.

Growing up Greg was the ultimate athlete, playing and excelling in all sports. One of his lacrosse coaches said "Greg is a lot better than he thinks he is". The funny thing is that Greg really didn't think about himself. It was always others first. It's how he lived his life.

Born Feb. 17, 1996, at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, N.Y., Greg cut his athletic teeth running around the front yard at home in Farmingdale, N.Y. For most of his childhood he lived in East Lyme where he was a 3-sport athlete at East Lyme High School. He took his lacrosse and soccer talents to Drew University in Madison, N.J. where he majored in history and economics. After graduating in 2014, he taught, coached and was admissions counselor at The Frederick Gunn School in Washington, Conn. From there he travelled south to the Ranney School in Tinton Falls, N.J. and was planning to start teaching history in Newark, N.J.

At Drew, Greg met the love of his life Morgan. They married Oct. 12, 2024, and welcomed son Lars Jan. 11, 2025. Greg was a loving husband and father. He was at his best when he was with them, especially when Lars was flashing big gummy smiles.

Greg is survived by his wife Morgan and son Lars of Cranford, N.J.; parents, Tim and Mary Jane Swenson of East Lyme; brothers, Mike (Casey) of Boston, Bryan(Katie and baby Maeve) of Fairfield, and Robbie of East Lyme; nana Teresa Swenson of Glen Cove, N.Y., so many aunts uncles and cousins, who all deeply loved him. He will forever be in our hearts and will be missed dearly.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, at Gray Funeral Home, 12 Springfield Avenue, Cranford, NJ. Funeral Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 17, at St Michael Parish, 40 Alden Street, Cranford, NJ. Burial will follow at St Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia, NJ.
