James Curley Obituary

Uncasville - James "Jim" Joseph Curley Jr., 84, of Uncasville, and formerly Noank, passed away unexpectedly at home Nov. 20, 2024.

Jim devoted 21 years of his life to the United States Navy, proudly serving aboard submarines and teaching Sub School from 1960 to 1981. After his honorable discharge, he transitioned to a successful career as an engineer, working with Tracor and later Bath Iron Works. Jim married his sweetheart, Ann, in 1964. They were stationed in Iceland, and then Hawaii, before settling in Noank to raise their family.

He was passionate about his guitar lessons, going to the gym, music, vacation travel with Ann and their friends, and living on the Shoreline. Jim was fortunate to visit Ireland with his brother, Bob, to explore their Irish heritage. They were affectionately referred to as "The Brothers" by all on their tour. He fervently supported the LA Dodgers (2024 World Series Champs!), having travelled to Dodgers Spring Training for many years. Jim was generous, hardworking, quick-witted and always "there" for his family and friends. More than anything, he was a doting grandfather who led by example, showing how to live with integrity and responsibility, and created cherished memories for his grandchildren.

Jim leaves behind his loving wife of 60 years, Ann O'Rourke Curley; his brother Robert Curley of Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.; his children, Laurie Clinton (Michael) of East Hampton, James Curley (Ruth) of Bozrah, and Michael Curley (Ronelle) of Kingsland, Ga.; fourteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Margaret and James Curley; and granddaughter Courtney Nunez.

He will be deeply missed by family, friends and all who knew him. A memorial service with military honors will be private.

We pause to remember and honor those we hold dear, whose presence shaped our lives in countless ways. Though they may no longer walk beside us, their love, wisdom, and laughter remain eternal, woven into the fabric of our memories. May we carry their legacy forward, finding strength and peace in the enduring light they left behind. We have the watch. Rest your oar.

Memories are forever. It meant a lot to Dad to spend his 80th birthday with his brother, our Uncle Jimmy. We had a beautiful day, talking, laughing, eating Birthday cake, and sharing stories with family. He will forever cherish his gift given to him, a book full of memorable photos of "The Brothers" on their trip to Ireland.
Uncle Jimmy , may you rest in Eternal Peace.
