John Capone Obituary

Groton - John J. Capone, Sr., age 77, of 622 Military Highway, Groton, passed away on Saturday, March 20, 2010, at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla.

He was born in New London on Dec. 1, 1932, the son of Michael and Anna DeLia Capone.

John was veteran of the Korean War serving in the Army Signal Corps and on the ski patrol in the Colorado mountains.

He had owned Mike's Junior restaurant in Groton in the early 1950s.

He was the Claims Manager at Pfizer for many years until his retirement.

John was an avid artist, scrimshander and builder of half hull models. He had been the President of the Young Democrats from 1954 to 1955, served on the Groton Representative Town Meeting and had been the director of the Groton Elks Youth Activities Committee. John had been a member of the Pfizer Players appearing in the play, Fiddler on the Roof.

John is survived by two sons, Michael J. Capone and his wife, Deborah, of Lyme and John J. Capone, Jr. and his wife, Rene, of Groton; his best friend, Wendy Capone of Mystic; four grandchildren, Michael and Matthew Capone, Christina M. Bills and John J. Capone, III; and one great-granddaughter, Isabella Bills.

Visiting hours will be held from 11 until 2 p.m. on Saturday with prayers at 1:30 p.m. at the Byles-Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St., Groton. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be directed to Babies Heart Run, c/o Navy Federal Credit Union, Gungywamp Road, Groton, CT 06340.
