John Hesse Obituary

North Stonington - John Thomas Hesse Jr., 79, of North Stonington, passed from this life Oct. 10, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. John was born in New Haven, to John T. Hesse Sr. and Evelyn (Lucier) Hesse.

He was raised in Hamden, and spent his summers at Indian Cove in Guilford, where he enjoyed life on Long Island Sound. He graduated from Hamden High School in 1961, and from the Connecticut School of Electronics in 1963. He continued his education at Hartford State Technical College. He then went on to a career in the field of plastic extrusion, beginning as a technician and ending his career at retirement as a sales engineer.

He met the love of his life, Cheryl Johnston, in the summer of 1964, and the two were wed the following year in October 1965. Together they built their home, raised three daughters, and shared 57 years of love and laughter. John lived a life surrounded by women, having grown up with three sisters and later fathering three daughters. While some men might have wished for a brother or a son, John embraced his situation and loved every minute of it. He was caring, kind, compassionate, thoughtful, personable and so giving. Throughout his life, he enjoyed sharing time and swapping stories with family and friends, spending time by the sea or in the woods, writing poetry and puttering in his garage workshop. He was the embodiment of what it means to be a good person, and loved God and his family above all else.

He is predeceased by his parents; and his sister Mary Lou (Hesse) Rand. He is survived by his devoted wife Cheryl; his three daughters, Cathy Hesse (Keith Bader), Christine Humphrey (John) and Beth Bergh (Christopher); his cherished grandchildren Ben Humphrey (Megan), Marisa Humphrey and Nate Bergh; his sisters, Patricia Butler and Barbara Jones; much loved nieces and nephew; and his lifelong best friend Ed Bishop (Trudy).

The family also wishes to thank Joy Moshier and Melissa Tetlow for the care and love they have shown John in the last few months of his life.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at St. Michael Church, 60 Liberty Street, in Pawcatuck. A calling hour will begin at 9 a.m. at the church up until the time of the Mass. John's burial will be held privately.

I´m so sad that our dear friend John has died. I have so many sweet childhood memories of our families spending time together... all my best to Cheryl, Cathy, Christine, and Beth. I hope he´ll give Bob a big hug from me, too!

Cheryl and family,
Saddened to read of Johns passing. I remember him fondly from our years working together at Davis Standard. He was as you described a kind, mild mannered man who always had a smile to share. May he Rest In Peace.
