John Keating Obituary

Waterford - Loving husband, father and brother, John E. Keating of Waterford, passed away Oct. 27, 2022, at Valley Presbyterian Hospital in Van Nuys, Calif., during a trip to visit his ill relative. John was born July 22, 1945, in New London, to Lena and Paul Keating and was the grandson of Gemma and Mario Paci. His caring maternal grandmother was very much a loving and guiding influence in John's childhood and for which he often expressed his gratitude for her in later life.

John was a lifelong resident in the New London-Waterford area with the exception of his military service in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War Era and his attendance at California State University, Fullerton, Calif. He attended local public schools and graduated from Saint Bernard High School (Class of '63). He was a longtime communicant at St. Joseph Catholic Church in New London.

John enjoyed various athletics throughout his life - organized baseball as a young boy, varsity football at St. Bernard's and golf during retirement. He also enjoyed landscaping, home improvement projects, art, and men's fashion and long walks with his dogs.

John worked at a variety of jobs including positions at Benoit's Clothing Shop in New London, in his young years, in engineering at Electric Boat, service work at Steak Loft Restaurant, work in the trades, namely union carpentry and iron work and lastly, a career at the City of New London Public Works.

John is survived by his loving wife Sally (Smith) Keating and his loving son Jonathan, both of Waterford. John is also survived by his elder sister Pauline (Keating) Arneberg; and niece Kristen Magnuson, both of Sherman Oaks, Calif.; and his many, many friends.

Services and Interment will be private.

Heartfelt condolences to Sally, Jonathon, Pauline and Kristen. John was my friend for over 67 years and what a good friend he was. We had fun as kids through good times as retirees, with many, many good memories for which I am grateful.

Rest in peace old friend, rest in peace.
