John Norris Obituary
He was born in New London, on Sept. 17, 1929, the son of Jeremiah and Gertrude (Leiper) Norris.
He was the husband of Marilyn (Crooks) Norris, who he married on Oct. 15, 1955, in the Congregational Church of East Hartford.
Mr. Norris was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army. He worked at Electric Boat as a machinist for 14 years, where he helped build the Nautilus. He retired from Northeast Utilities as an assistant supervisor of Millstone Unit 1 Maintenance. He was a life member of the Goshen Fire Department.
He is survived by two sons, John R. Norris and William D. Norris, both of Waterford; three daughters, Melissa Norris Kazee of Niantic, Melinda Norris Kierys of Norwich, and Jennifer Norris Benway of Niantic. He has 13 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by five sisters.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Thomas L. Neilan & sons East Lyme Funeral Home, 48 Grand St., Niantic. A memorial service with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 6, at Grace Episcopal Church in Old Saybrook.
Memorial contributions may be made to either Grace Episcopal Church or to the Goshen Fire Department.
