John Rathbun Obituary
A Noank native, he was a graduate of Fitch Senior High School and UCONN. He joined the ROTC and served in the Korean War. He worked for 35 years as a computer analyst for the phone company.
For 40 years, John was an active participant of AA, helping others achieve sobriety.
John, AKA "Ben's brother," was predeceased by his wife, Evelyn; and his beloved dog, Cleo, the wonder dog.
He is survived by his children, Laura R. Hall, John Rathbun, Nancy Rathbun, James A. Rathbun and their mother, Pat Mayo. He is also survived by his stepdaughters, Elise Cain, Cynthia Dragon and Rachelle Barron; his grandchildren, Kyle Hall, Ellie Hall and Julia Rathbun; his stepgrandchildren, Elliot Cain, David Dragon, Matthew Dragon, Kathryn Dixon and Thea Dixon; and his caregivers, Bernie Mullins and Douglas Bennett.
A funeral service will be held at noon Saturday, Nov. 26, 2016, at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl St., Mystic, with Pastor Vicki Burdick officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations in John's memory may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association or Hospice.

Dear Laura, Kyle, and Ellie, and all of the Rathbun Family,
I was saddened to learn of John's passing on 11/10/16. While I was living in Noank , John was my neighbor, and I have fond memories of John, and I, having good talks over the fence, and I learned of his wisdom. On other occasions, I appreciated his quick suggestions about how to fix my lawn mower when it puttered out, and with other things on the property! He seemed to have a sixth sense of how to fix things! I am sure he will be missed by all of you. Your family is in my thoughts, and prayers, and my deepest sympathy to all of you.

Laura,Kyle & Ellie, I am so very sorry for your loss. I know your dad and grandfather were a big part of your life. No matter how sick or old you can never prepare yourself for the loss of a loved one. RIP Mr. Rathbun.

I'll never forget how John came over to my house and helped out with our flooded basement. He was a great man, a scholar, and a wonderful role model.
