Joseph Knight Obituary

Uncasville - Joseph C. "Jay" Knight Jr. of Uncasville, passed away Sept. 5, 2024. Jay was born in Raceland, La., May 29, 1949. He was the eldest son to parents, Joseph C. Knight Sr. and Marguerite (Hargis) Knight.

He graduated from Catholic High School in Baton Rouge, in 1967, and then enrolled at LSU and played basketball for two years. Jay joined the U.S. Navy submarine service from 1969 to 1975, serving aboard the Robert E. Lee SSBN 601 Blue Crew. After his service, he worked for Interstate Electronics Corp. retiring in 2011 after 36 years.

He was a loving husband to his wife Cindy for 51 years. She survives him, along with his sister Marguerite, who gave a great deal of her time, expertise and considerable kindness during his illness. He is also survived by brother Alex "Butch" who flew here from Louisiana to spend time with Jay and his youngest brother George. His nephews, nieces and all relatives in the Knight and Hargis families will miss him. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Paul.

Jay was an avid fan of all LSU sports. Enjoying several sporting activities, he was especially fond of golf. He played in many U.S. States. When his company assigned him to England, he played St. Andrews in Scotland "Old Course" with three friends who flew over from Connecticut. He was an officer in the Montville Golf League for several years prior to his illness. He will be missed by his close golfing buddies, Waz, John, Steve, Bill, Ray, Bing and many others. Jay will also be missed by a large group of special cousins and dear friends here in Connecticut. As a member of the Montville Polish American Club, he participated in many events and enjoyed the camaraderie of his fellow members.

Jay, you will be missed. The Montville Golf League will not be the same without you telling a joke prior to tee off. May God rest your soul.

I met Jay when he supported the UK SWS program in Barrow, Faslane and the UK DASOs at the Cape Florida and Kings BayGeorgia.
As many have commented, Jay was a great guy to work with and an absolute friend and gentleman.
I have added a photo of Jay, myself and a US sailor who supported a UK DASO in September 1995.
He visited my wife Isabel and I when he was at Faslane and we also played golf together.
Jay will be sorely missed by anyone who has met him and my heart felt thoughts go out to Cindy, her family and friends on this very sad occasion.
