1948 - 2018

Montville - Leonard J. McNeil, of Uncasville, passed away on Friday, Feb. 9, 2018, at Hartford Hospital surrounded by family.

Lenny was born on Aug. 6, 1948, in East Lyme, the son of Rose and Clarence McNeil. Lenny grew up in Montville, graduated from Montville High School in 1965 and then served in the U.S. Navy for four years. Lenny loved the ocean, he spent most of his summer days at the various beaches in the area. He had a great affection for animals starting at an early age showing horses and dogs. He was a great dog caretaker and dog walker, when someone was in need he would always lend a gentle hand.

After several jobs in real estate and the moving industry, Lenny was employed by the U.S. military in their personnel transport division where he received numerous citations for his performance. He retired from the federal government.

Lenny wore many hats, he loved life and everything that came with it, he was strong, trustworthy, compassionate, gentle and a great listener. Lenny was a hard worker all his life but would still make time for friends and family. Birthdays, holidays, christenings, weddings, he shared it all with them. He frequently supported charitable efforts at the Montville Senior Center.

He was predeceased by his parents, Rose and Clarence McNeil; and is survived by a host of cousins and two godchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. with visitation from noon to 1 p.m., Saturday, March 24, 2018, at the Montville Funeral Home of Church and Allen.
