Lillian was born July 28, 1922, and was a long time Noank resident. Lillian had a long list of accomplishments over her 86 years; she was born in Stonington and survived the 1938 Hurricane in the basement of the Borough School, she moved to Noank at a young age and was the first paper "girl" in the region, she lived through the Great Depression and was the sole provider for her large family.
After graduating from Stonington High School, she married David "Ray" Erb, and they moved to Noank in 1943. Lil and Ray enjoyed bowling at the Mystic Bowling Lanes, and Lil was very proud of her many championship trophies. During World War II while Ray was in the service, Lil worked at Colt Firearms assembling and inspecting machine guns for the war effort.
After returning from the war, Ray went to work at Electric Boat, and Lil pursued a political career and eventually became the first woman Republican Assistant Minority Leader for the State House of Representatives. She ended her political career as Groton Judge of Probate. Throughout her career she also worked for and supported the Child and Family Agency which was very dear to Lil's heart, and she took great pleasure in helping others. One of Lillian's many dreams was to attend college, and finally at the age of 77, she graduated cum laude from Eastern CT State University. At the time, she was the oldest graduate in school history.
Lil loved boating on Fishers Island Sound and spent many days with her family and friends at Watch Hill, Mystic Island, and Fishers Island. Many days and nights were spent at Watch Hill exploring the beaches with her family. During her days as a state representative, she became known as "Lobster Lil" as she kept several lobster pots in the Noank Harbor and would bring lobsters to her co-workers at the Capital. Lil was no stranger to The Race and loved all types of fishing; she especially liked the good fight of a bluefish. Lil started skiing at the age of 50 and spent several years traveling to Vermont, Maine, and New Hampshire to ski with her family. Lil and Ray's favorite ski area was King Ridge in Vermont, and they loved to chase each other down the slopes. Lil continued to ski for many years even after having both knees and hips replaced. Over the past ten years, Lil and Ray spent winters in Siesta Key, Fla., and developed many winter friendships in the warm weather. Lil's favorite beach pastime was shelling, and there was always a competition to see who could find the biggest lettered olive.
Lillian was predeceased by her son, Geoffrey; brothers, Arthur and Edward Edgar; and a sister, Eleanor Comforti.
She is survived by her brothers,Thomas and William Edgar and her sister, Ruth Celico. Lillian is also survived by her husband of 67 years, David "Ray"; daughter, Dana Kubachka and husband, Joseph; son, David and wife, Joann, and son, Gregory and wife, Shelley; grandchildren, Jodie and John Kubachka and Amy Veilleux, Ryan and Amanda Erb, Jacob and Jason Erb; and a great-grandchild, Kendall Kubachka.
She was greatly loved and respected by her family and was always available for advice and comfort. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered.
The family will hold a small private service to honor Lillian's memory. There will be a memorial reception to celebrate Lillian's life from 3 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009, at the Ram Island Yacht Club in Noank, and the family invites all friends to attend.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Child & Family Agency of SE CT, 255 Hempstead St., New London CT 06320.

To the family of Lillian Erb: One of my best experiences in the Probate Court System was the pleasure of working with Judge Lillian Erb. Her reputation was outstanding- -compassion, fairness, dedication and most importantly, a great sense of humor. Beyond that, she worked tirelessly for the improvement of the courts. She left a valuable imprint on those whom she helped over the years. My sincerel sympathy to the family. Glenn E. Knierim, retired Probate Court Administrator.

To the Erb Family:
I was saddened to learn of Lillian's passing. What a great gal. I remember well the great times together in the State Legislature when politics could be fun. Lillian's
service as one of the first Republican women leaders was a milestone and she served with distinction. David and Dana had the opportunity to see their Mom in action and I know they will treasure those memories. She lived a full life and I'm sure loved every moment of it.

To all the Erbs,
Well it didn't take long before the entire village knew of your sad news. You know…Lil really, really was a great lady!
OMgoodness…the hours we’ve spent laughing…talking about this, that and the next thing…I wouldn’t trade for anything.
Truth is…when it came to Lil…there was never enough time!!! And oh by God…did you learn a thing or two when you listened to her. She always had great advice…or would set me to thinking about “something” in a new light. She was an inspiration and always just kept on truckin!!! :)
You know in reading the obituary…I honestly wouldn’t have been surprise if it has said she climbed Everest! She had that much chutzpah!
Everyone is going to miss Lil’. She was a dear friend, a wonderful lady and a great champion for so many people. And when she spoke about you…the family…Ray…the kids and the grand kids…she just beamed! You brought her so much happiness and she just loved to share stories about all of you.
I’m not going to think of Lil as permanently gone…I’m just going to think of her as on a great vacation…until we meet again.
I pretty sure that’s the way she would have wanted it. Besides…it’s not as if any of us could ever forget Lillian Erb. You are all in our thoughts and prayers, as is Lil.
Peace & Love,
Kip & Marie (Tyler) Wiley & Family

Greg, Shell and boys,
Please know how much we love you and are praying that you will find peace and comfort in the wonderful memories you have of Lil. Surely, she wouldn't want one single tear shed, but only a celebration of a life lived not only to the fullest, but also of a life lived with excellence. Truly she was one of a kind.
Love you - Mike, Sue and all

I met Mrs.Erb just once a long time ago when they lived on Ocean Ave in NL, when David and I were in high school and even though I didn't know her as well as others I knew David and he was a great man, such a good job she did raising him and he turned out to be a wonderful person. So thank you for giving us your son a great friend.

I first got to know Lil when I joined a Child & Family Agency auxiliary and the annual tag sale. Lil was always a powerful force to reckon with at the sale and got things done. Later on, I discovered that she was the cousin of a long-time friend, and after telling her of it, we developed a more personal relationship. I always looked forward to seeing her and her welcoming smile. She will be missed by all who knew her, and I'm sure that she will be organizing a tag sale in the hereafter. Rest in peace, Lil.

I have such wonderful memories of our times on the boat at Watch Hill - the fires on the beach (and David blowing up his hand with a cherry bomb) and Mr. Erb thinking I was drowning and jumping in after me (I was fine actually - just loud). And Mrs. Erb was a hoot - a wonderful personality. My thoughts are with you.

To Greg & Shelley, Our deepest condolences on the passing of your mom. She was a very wonderful person, who never forgot what true human kindness was all about. The last time we saw her, was at the Garden Party at Tom Reynolds House, and it had been some time that she had seen me. She went down the list of inquiries as to "why I had been out of the village so long". We truly will miss her.

I would like you all to know how special Judge Erb was to me and my family. I have remembered and thanked her for 24 years. She allowed my "step-dad" to become my dad and making us a "legal" family.
She will always hold a VERY special place in my heart.
The day the papers were finalized, she gave me crayons and a coloring book and I was heart broken when they melted in the car... I will never forget her.
Please accept my condolences, and know you have one more angel by your side.
