Lillian Whitford Obituary

East Lyme - Lillian Caroline (Feifert) Whitford, of 13 Black Point Road, Niantic, passed away on Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at Bride Brook Health and Rehab Center in Niantic, after a brief illness.

She was born in Cranston, R.I., on Jan. 30, 1918, to the late August H. and Minna (Kochan) Feifert.

Lillian was married to Malcolm Whitford on Jan. 1, 1940, in Westerly, and they resided in Niantic. Malcolm passed away April 8, 2007.

Lillian was an active member of the Huntington Street Baptist Church in New London.

Lillian is survived by her daughter, Carole A. Simpson and her husband, Dr. William M. Simpson, USCG (ret.), of East Haddam; a granddaughter, Christine French and her husband, Mason B. French, of Edgewater, Fla.; and her great-grandchildren, Heather Nicole French of Austin, Texas and William Scott French of Edgewater, Fla.; a brother, Alvin H. Feifert and his wife, Nancy, of Warwick, R.I.; and many dear nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Edward and Paul Feifert.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Bride Brook for their excellent and loving care of Lillian.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Byles Memorial Home, 99 Huntington St., New London. Interment will be in Maple Root Cemetery, Coventry, R.I. A visiting hour will be held from 10 a.m. until the start of the service on Thursday. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Huntington St. Baptist Church, 29 Huntington St., New London.

Memorial gifts may be sent to the Huntington St. Baptist Church Missionary Committee, c/o Ella Sutton, for distribution to missionaries.

It was a pleasure to have Lillian in art class each week. She was a talented artist and such a beautiful person. She was thankful to me for teaching art class, I was thankful to her for allowing me to be a part of her artistic journey. I'll miss her.
