Madelyn Partridge Obituary
Groton - Madelyn J. Partridge, lifelong resident of Groton died Sept 13, 2021, at L+M Hospital, New London, from complications sustained after a fall.
Madelyn was born Nov. 16, 1921, in Mystic to the late John P. Shaffer and Mary Etta Whipple Shaffer. She was predeceased by brothers, John, Robert, Harry and Donald Shaffer.
Madelyn was also predeceased by her husband Warren J. "Pat" Partridge as well as her sons, Robert J. Partridge and Philip J. Partridge. Her youngest daughter, Debby Lee Mantell, of North Stonington, passed away at L+M Hospital Sept 26, 2021, sadly, just 13 days after Madelyn. Debby died after a 6-year long battle with cancer. There is nothing Debby would not do for her mother. They both lived to keep each other alive. Now they are together in heaven forever.
Madelyn was employed with the Groton School System hot lunch program for many years. She then was employed at L+M Hospital in the "coffee shop" until her retirement. Nothing made her happier than to be cooking and feeding others. One of her many specialties was Stuffed Shrimp. She amazingly did all her own cooking until recently. A special thank you goes to the efforts of the Groton Senior lunch program, making sure Madelyn had nutritious meals while daughter Debby was undergoing many chemotherapy treatments and procedures.
Madelyn is survived by her daughters, Gerelyn Adcock (and husband Arnold) of Melbourne Beach, Fla., and Elizabeth Ann Partridge of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; grandchildren, Nicole Adcock Boger (husband James), Palm Beach, Fla., Frank Maznicki (wife Danielle), Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Alex Mantell, Auburn, Calif., and Emily Mantell of North Stonington. Also surviving Madelyn are several beautiful great-grandchildren.
Madelyn had many friends in her community of Grasso Gardens. She was one of the original residents of this senior complex in Groton. A special thank you to all who shared their kind words and memories of how Madelyn touched their lives and how much she will be missed. She had 100 years of "life in Groton" stories to tell all who would listen, all with a sense of humor. She loved to laugh!
Arrangements were made by Byles-Groton Memorial Home. Graveside service was private.
In memory of Madelyn's 100th birthday (Nov 16th) please consider a donation to the Groton Senior lunch program, Newtown Rd Groton, CT. It will be greatly appreciated.
