Marguerite Alexopoulos Obituary

Norwich - Marguerite "Rita" (Dionisopoulos) Alexopoulos, 94, wife of the late Peter C. Alexopoulos, formerly of Hamilton Ave., died Saturday afternoon at Orchard Grove in Uncasville.

Born in Clinton, Mass. on July 16, 1915, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Prinos) Dionisopoulos.

On July 27, 1941, in Clinton, she was united in marriage to Peter C. Alexopoulos, who died Oct. 9, 2000.

Prior to her retirement she was employed as an occupational therapist aide at the former Norwich Hospital.

A longtime member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Norwich, she was a recipient of the Bishop's Laity Award, given in recognition of her special and devoted service to her church. She was also a member of the Philoptochos Society, the Daughters of Penelope, and C.S.E.A.

Surviving are her two sons and their spouses, Trent and Jo Alexopoulos of Shrewsbury, Mass. and John and Angela Alexopoulos of Storrs, Conn.; four grandchildren, Kristen Socha, Laura Masterson, Christopher and Nicholas Alexopoulos; four great-grandchildren, Zachary and Lydia Masterson and Peter and Sydney Socha; and two brothers, Peter and Chris Dionis both of Massachusetts.

She was predeceased by a great-grandchild, Emily Socha and a brother, Daniel Dionis.

Her deep faith was demonstrated in everyday life through unselfish love for her family, her church, and her friends. We will miss her dearly.

The family wishes to sincerely thank the entire staff at Orchard Grove Specialty Care Center for their extraordinary care and kindness especially during the time of her greatest need, and also to Dr. Slater and the staff at Norwich Oncology Group.

Her strength of spirit and loving kindness deeply touched all who knew her.

Visitation will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday with funeral liturgy to follow at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. Interment to follow in Maplewood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations are asked to be made in her memory to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 247 Washington St., Norwich, CT 06360.

To Rita,s Family,
Our prayers and thoughts are with you all. I personally had the pleasure of spending time with Rita while she was a resident at the AHEPA 110-11 property.
I feel honored to have met such a strong and wonderful person. She tried to educate me about the Greek traditions. She baked the greatest Greek cookies and shared her warmth with everyone. She loved, and so appreciated her family. She spoke of how fortunate she was to have such a beautiful family. Her smile and kindness was inspirational, never a complaint. May god Bless You all!
