Marianne Pfeiffer Obituary

Lyme - Marianne Goetze Pfeiffer died peacefully at her home in Lyme Saturday, Aug. 7, 2021. She was born in Heidelberg, Germany in 1925 and fled to the United States in 1934.

Her mother and father published an anti-Nazi newspaper in the family basement at Marburg University and subsequently had to disperse throughout northern Europe and make their way to New Haven and Yale University where Albrecht Goetze, her father, had been offered a professorship.

Marianne was always artistic and became a renowned enamelist producing exquisite cloisonne. The art form was carried and sold through quality stores as Cartier, Tiffany, Shreve, Crump and Low, and as well as others. Marianne's cloisonne became part of some of the world leading art collections.

She was a longtime volunteer throughout the community. Marianne was one of the initial organizers of High Hopes. She worked to re-establish the gardens at the Hart House in Saybrook. She served as an on-site record keeper to many of her son's archaeological investigations throughout the lower Connecticut Valley.

Marianne loved the outdoors. The natural world was her favorite garden. The trails she blazed at Hartman Park, Bushy Hill, as well as Watch Rock are enjoyed by the young and old alike.

Marianne was predeceased by her husband Andrew; and daughter Merrily. She leaves behind her brother Dieter of California, and his son and two daughters. Marianne's youngest daughter, Diane resides in California as does Merrily's son Trevor Page.

Marianne's final years were spent with son John and his wife Marga; granddaughter, Aubris; and grandson Dane. They grew up with her and called her "mother nature".
