Yesterday

For the past three years, I had the privilege of knowing her not just as someone I supervised, but as someone I learned from every single day. Ann had a way with children that you don´t see often-it couldn´t be taught. She especially connected with children who needed a little more patience, a little more understanding, a little more of someone who truly saw them. And she always did.
I will always remember how she could walk into a room and with a little trial and error and a lot of patience, a child who was struggling would be calm, engaged, and on track. She met every child exactly where they were, without judgment, and made them feel safe and important. Families trusted her, and she never took that lightly. The relationships she built weren´t temporary-they were lasting.
Ann was also the kind of person you could count on without question. She showed up, supported her coworkers, and never asked for recognition. She just cared-deeply and genuinely.
The program, the children, and all of us are better because of her. I know I am.

My heart is with her family during this incredibly difficult time. I hope they know just how many lives she touched and how much she meant to all of us.
I will carry her memory with me-in the way I support others, in the patience I try to show, and in remembering to slow down and truly connect, just like she always did.

I´m going to miss her so much.

Ann was a best friend to me, and we all know how hard it is to be a best friend and to keep a best friend. We both loved the military, children, our family and of course a good meal when shared with good friends! I will never forget Ann's kindness and caring ways. Thirteen years ago she drove to Virginia to spend time with our Child & Youth family when we lost our dear friend and coworker Dee. Ann had been so generous with Dee when Dee visited New London Base she had admired a wooden plack on Ann's desk "You do not have to be crazy to work here we will train you", Ann handed that plack to Dee and it stayed on her desk for many years until she passed away and another friend took over the gardianship of the plack. Every time I think of Ann I will think of her wonderful fun personality and of her deep committment to all of her friends. I can't imagine the pain the family is feeling, I will always keep Ann in my heart and my head as a guiding force for how to treat others! Love Judy Luckey, Navy Child & Youth Norfolk Virginia

Ann was such a wonderful person and did a lot of great things for many people. She cared for my son when he was at the CDC. Then she taught me when I started working at the CDC. She will be greatly missed.
