Marjorie Jensen Obituary

Centerville, Mass. - Marjorie Pickowitz Jensen, 70, passed away peacefully at home Thursday, Nov. 25, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of Garye D. Jensen, with whom she shared many years of marriage. Born in Uncasville, Marjorie was a daughter of the late Henry and Anne (Dislo) Pickowitz.

She was a graduate of Saint Bernard High School and went on to attend St. Francis Nursing School. She received a master's degree from Webster University. She ended her U.S. Air Force career as assistant director of medical nursing from Wilford Hall Medical Center to return back to her roots to help the family care for her elderly father.

In her spare time, Marjorie enjoyed camping, gardening and shopping, particularly at garage sales and consignment stores. Marjorie devoted many years to being a volunteer as a marriage counselor at her church, as well as with the food pantry. Above all, family was most important to Marjorie. She loved nothing more than being "Gum" to her wonderful grandchildren.

Marjorie is survived and will be deeply missed by her husband Garye D. Jensen; her children, Anne Villano (Sean), David R. Jensen (Elizabeth), stepson Garye S. Jensen, and stepson Damian Jensen; seven grandchildren; a sister, Kathy Sullivan (Roger); and two brothers, David Pickowitz (Kathy) and Anthony Pickowitz (Cindy). Marjorie was predeceased by her stepson Christopher M. Jensen.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1, at Doane Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 160 W. Main St., Hyannis. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 2, at Our Lady of Victory Church, 230 S. Main St., Centerville. Burial will take place at a later date in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Marjorie's name to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 450 Brookline Ave., Boston, MA 02215. I'm saddened to hear of Marge's passing.
We met in 1977 when we were assigned to be roommates at the Air Force's Officers Basic Medical Training at Shepard AFB. We had a great time learning how to wear the uniform and salute and had quite a good time partying at the officers club with other "newbies". Over our years in the AF our career paths crossed and I remember being excited that I'd get to see her again and catch up. Marge was a sweetheart with a kind soul and I have no doubt she will be missed tremendously by her family and friends. RIP Marge....prayers for your family.

I am so sorry to hear this news. Right now I can hear her laugh and remember her bright and constant smile. I recall her telling me about the night that Garye proposed and they closed the restaurant. She was over the moon with happiness!
I enjoyed teaching with her at Brooks AFB and she always had a kind word for everyone.
My sincere condolences to the entire family, heaven now has another angel.

Sending condolences to the Jensen and Pickowitz families. It's hard to believe so many years have gone by since Margie (and her siblings) first became friends - over 65 years. After reading the obituary this morning, my mind has been filled with so many happy memories. Margie was truly a wonderful woman, filled with love and cheer. Please know my prayers are with you all at this time of sorrow.
