Marshall Derry Obituary

Naples, Fla. - Marshall Derry, 75, of Nashua, N.H. and Naples, Fla. passed away Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2023, at Naples Community Hospital in Naples, Fla. With the love of his life, Pamela (Hurley) Derry holding his hand, he found peace and release from a period of failing health. Though he fought valiantly, it was not an issue of strength.

Marshall was born in New London Aug. 22, 1948, to the late Charles Derry and the late Constance (Botchis Derry) Romeo. A talented student and gifted athlete, his hard work led him to Syracuse University. Upon graduation he was employed as a draftsman at Pratt & Whitney, before pursuing his true passion, education.

Prior to his education career he worked alongside his parents and brothers at the family pizza house, Campus Pizza, in New London. It was truly a family affair. For 40 years Marshall worked tirelessly in education, first at North Branford High School in North Branford, before relocating to New Hampshire where he continued in education at Salem High School in Salem, N.H. and ultimately retiring from education as the Director of the Career and Technical Education Center with the Nashua School District in Nashua, N.H.

Marshall was an avid golfer and loved spending winters at his place in Naples, Fla. He also loved football, whether coaching in his younger years or watching college or NFL games.

Marshall is survived by his loving wife, Pam Derry; his daughters, Kim Steger and her husband Patrick of Hooksett, N.H., Sue Levy and her husband Seth of Pinardville, N.H.; his stepson Chris Kania and his wife Stephanie of Londonderry, N.H.; and his five grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers and their wives, Michael and Vicky Derry of Niantic, Stephen and Cyndy Derry of Madison, and Bill and Kathleen Derry of Niantic; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, with notes of remembrance immediately following at Rivet Funeral Home, Merrimack NH. There will be no Mass. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to a cause that was important to Marshall and his family; VFW or United Way of Greater Nashua NH.

Seeing this notice has caused me to recall so many football coaching experiences we shared and teaching many of the best hard to reach students at NB.
Marshall and I shared rides to work every am from his house two doors away from mine. Our scouting report trip always included rating on scale of -1-10- the food stand menu and the sideline cheering squads.I'll always remember his hearty laugh, the shared storys of Fred's required routines before, after and during games.
RIP my friend

Marshall was a highly talented educational co-worker, a master craftsman, and a long time friend. As a golfer, however, his legacy is probably best portrayed by his golfing buddies hitting into a water hazard as a tribute to his acumen on the course. His passing will leave a void in the hearts and memories of Pam and his family, countless friends, and former students. He touched countless lives making the world a better place. Rest in peace!

I only had the pleasure of meeting Marshall on a few occasions but his warmth and passion were infectious. He made you feel special and what you said was important. I shared one of his passions, that of pizza maker and was hoping to have him share his secrets with me some day. He was taken way too soon but in reading his obituary it is clear he left so much love behind him, in the end I believe love is the essence of us all. Marshall lives in all of those he touched, even if for a short time. The world is a bit less for his passing but heaven is more full now he is there

I had the pleasure of Marshall's company on many occasions, from working with him in Bill's shop as we rebuilt our boat to enjoying the pleasures of Block Island. His skills, wit and generous spirit were a gift. I send my condolences to Pam and the entire Derry family for your loss.
