Nancy Crandall Obituary

Niantic – Nancy Jane Crandall, 91 passed away peacefully Saturday, Jan. 6, 2024, with her daughter Cheryl and son-in-law Paul Forcier by her side. She was the beloved wife of William R. Crandall for 45 wonderful years before his passing in 1997. They had two children, son William and daughter Cheryl.

Born Dec. 27, 1932, to Leslie Gardner and Eva Maynard.

Nancy retired from Stop and Shop after 38 years as a lead front end and office clerk. After retirement, she worked at Connecticut College, which she enjoyed so much being around all the young people and staff.

My mom's happiest time was when her family was young and we were all together. She loved being a wife, a mother and grandmother. She was a very involved mom in her children and grandson's activities always volunteering in some way.

My mom was a very good athlete, she played softball, basketball and led the marching band. She was an exceptional bowler always having high average in the Pfizer league. She loved playing cards especially with her card group. She enjoyed playing slots with her sister Alice.

She is survived by daughter Cheryl and son-in-law Paul Forcier; grandson Matthew Crandall and his wife Christine; great-grandchildren, Will, Emily, Caleb and Nancy; as well as her godson Bernie Deleon and stepbrother Henry Kerr.

She was predeceased by her beloved son William in 2004; as well as siblings, Evelyn, Leslie, Billy, Betty and her sister and best friend Alice.

Special thanks to her nieces, Karen and Linda, who always along with me made sure our moms spent quality time together. Thank you to her primary Dr. Andre and Dr. Gonzales for such wonderful care with such compassion. Special thanks to the Bride Brook facility and entire staff where my mom spent her last few months with comfort and compassionate care.

Mom joins her beloved husband and son. Celebration of life will be private. Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Growing up we had wonderful memories of summer picnics with pool fun, lots of corn on the cob and mini cheesecakes Nancy made. And nights of our parents card games, we would sneak in for some treats. My sincere condolences to Cheryl, Paul and other family members. God be with you all.

Sad to hear of my Aunt Nancy´s passing. The last of the Gardner siblings. She was a beautiful person with a kind heart. She made me a Raggedy Andy when I was a child. I still have it. I will always remember her kindness. May she rest in peace.

Heartfelt condolences from Rick and I to the family, notably Cheryl, Paul and Matt. My aunt Nancy was a beautiful, loving and caring person. She brought joy, laughter and happiness to my life. One of my fondest memories was going with my aunt and cousins to Mr. Bunner's Lighthouse and beach in my childhood years. The last few years with my mom Alice, her beloved sister Nancy, cousin Cheryl, my sister Karen and I were spent spending quality time together. We all loved to go to the casino, lunch, Nancy's house to celebrate birthday's or just to visit. Her memories will stay forever in my heart. Rest peacefully, she will be missed dearly, until we meet again.
