Ralph Green Obituary

Groton - Ralph C. Green, 75, passed away at home in Groton, June 13, 2025, after a brief battle with cancer. Born in Arlington, Ohio, Nov. 24, 1949, he was the son of Robert and Martha Green and the youngest of their three children.

In 1971, Ralph joined the U.S. Navy and served for 21 years, retiring, as he proudly put it, at the best rank an enlisted sailor could achieve, chief. He didn't exactly fit the sailor mold, he was always on land, never got a tattoo, and rarely swore.

Ralph met Mitsue "Miko" Shimorura while stationed in Japan. She was a Tokyo native who loved Elvis and rock and roll. He preferred Willie Nelson and Sunday football. They were married Nov. 11, 1978, and raised three children together. Mitsue passed away in May 2023.

After retiring, Ralph returned to Ohio and attended Ohio Northern University and received a degree in pharmacy. He went on to work for 20 years as a night pharmacist at CVS. If you lived in the Groton area during those times, chances are he filled your prescription at some point. When asked what he did for a living he would grin and say, "I deal drugs."

He found joy in the little things: a classic country song, a cold beer, pumpkin pie, a rare Browns touchdown, and cheering on the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Guardians.

Ralph leaves behind his children: Dana Green and her partner Matt Frizzell, Naomi Green and her husband John Green and Masao Green. He was a proud and loving Jiji to Mie, Emiko, Lewis, Allyster, Bennett, Charlotte, Jackson and Graham. Ralph is back with Miko, probably arguing about which version of "You Were Always on My Mind" to play, Elvis or Willie.

"Fair winds and following seas, Chief. You are loved more than you know and missed more than words can say."

Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. with A Celebration of Life Service beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 28, at Byles Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames Street, Groton. Deepest condolences to Ralph’s family. I worked with Ralph at CVS in the evening. After the dust settled from the emergency room and late night scripts, he was never short of a story to tell and a hearty laugh. He spoke, almost always, about his family. He took such pride and loved you all so very much. I hope his love stays with you always. Rest peacefully Ralph. The peanut brittle on earth will never be the same!

Sincere condolences to all “The Greens”. Ralph, missed, will not be forgotten by his friends and neighbors, close and far, customers (at CVS) or just regular old friends across the street or around the corner. There will always be a special place for he in our hearts. Blessings, Fritz, Lynn, James and Mark Poppe.
