Richard Kirsch Obituary

Canton, Mass. - Richard William Kirsch, 81, of Canton, Mass., died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2024. Born in 1942, in New London, to Lawrence "Larry" and Helen Kirsch, Richard was raised in New London. He returned with his wife, Ruth Davidson, to raise his family after attending college in Massachusetts and graduate school in Washington, D.C.

Richard joined the family business, Thames Permacrete, a cement block manufacturing company in Uncasville. After Larry retired, Richard built Thames Permacrete into a multi- site manufacturing and supply house for a thriving building community of architects, engineers and masons.

Besides his wife, Ruth, he is survived by his children and grandchildren: Dan (Amy) Calvin and Zoey; Aron, Dylan and Mia; and Rena (Murray) and Arlo.

Richard served on the board of Beth El Synagogue in New London, for many years and professionally with national committees promoting the technical aspects of construction with concrete masonry. He leaves a vacuum to be filled by caring for your loved ones, community and the world.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, Thursday, Sept. 5, at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Avenue, New London. Interment will follow in First Hebrew Cemetery in Preston. Mr. Kirsch's funeral service will be livestreamed on Zoom. Please visit his memorial page on www.neilanfuneralhome.com for the link. Ruth and family
So sorry for your loss.
I worked for Larry right out of high school and met Rich in 1969 when he would come and work in the plant for his dad on certain days. After moving on and several years later Rich called me in 1988 and asked me to come back and work for him in Montville and at a new plant
In Middlefield called Butler Concrete which I did. I respected and liked Rich, he was a good man.

Daphne and I express our condolences to the entire Kirsch family. Both our families go back many, many a year. I recall meeting Rich and his dad at the plant in Montville getting lessons in the block business! May his name be an inspiration for generations to come.
