Richard Quinn Obituary

Lakeland Fla. - Richard G. "Dick" Quinn Sr., 84, of Lakeland, Fla., passed away Monday, Feb. 22, 2021, after complications from a fall. He was born in Norwich April 20, 1936, the son of James A. Quinn and Germaine (Laforge) Quinn.

He attended St. Mary's school in Norwich and Norwich Free Academy. Sept. 5, 1953, he married Diane Bourdon, and they recently celebrated their 67th anniversary.

He is survived by his wife; and five children: Kathy Quinn Daley (Ray Gallagher) of Uncasville, Richard Jr. (Eileen) of Las Vegas, Nev., Patrick of Overland Park, Kan., Therese Quinn Wilson (Jim) of Norwich and Chris Quinn Chavez (Ron) of Henderson, Nev.; ten grandchildren: Cindy Kristoff (Jesse), Tara Quinn, Keri Rende (Brandon), Richard Quinn III, Elysa Quinn, Katie Wilson, Emily Moure (Geo), Nate Wilson, Hannah Quinn and Olivia Quinn; and great-grandpa to Meri, Ava, Bradley, Emmett, Adrian, Levi and Mia. He was also survived by his sister-in-law Alice Quinn of Lakeland, Fla.; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Dick was a proud member of the Quinn clan of Norwich. He grew up in Greenville; he counted the Ryleys, Bellis and Kents among his cousins. His father was a Norwich patrolman for many years. He was a U.S. Army veteran. After spending some time with the Norwich Police Department, he returned to school and graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1972. After receiving his master's, he moved his family to California in 1978, and then spent over 20 years in the education field as a teacher and administrator. After retiring in 2001, he and Diane relocated to Lakeland, Fla. He was a fan of the Red Sox, Celtics, New York Giants and UConn.

He was a man of strong faith, a member of Crestview Baptist church in Lakeland, Fla. He was also a member of Gideons International. His love of God, family, humor and of course, music, was legendary. He played many instruments, belonged to a few choirs and bands, and did a mean Francis Albert impression. He was larger than life - the life of the party. He touched so many lives in so many ways, and he will truly be missed.

He was predeceased by his parents; his brother James; his sister Joan; his son-in-law Bill Daley; and so many lifelong friends and family who are waiting to welcome him home. He fought to stay with Diane for as long as possible. Heaven will surely be a funnier place. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Rich has been a dear friend of mine for 60+ years. I am having a very difficult time with his passing. There is no question he is at the side of the LORD. With out a doubt, he could have been a standup comedian. He has done over the years many awful things to me that would make him laugh. What a sense of humor this man had. I first met him when he was a police officer for the city of Norwich. I praise him for going back to school and congratulate him for his accomplishments over the years. I can't say enough how much he means to me and may he rest in peace with the Lord. Love you Rich.

I enjoyed working with Dick through Polk Senior Games. He always had a smile and a song. He will be fondly remembered and dearly missed. Much love to Diane.
