Robert Jacob Obituary

North Stonington - Robert E. Jacob, better known as "Jake", of North Stonington, passed away on Feb. 12, 2010, after a short fight with cancer.

He was born in Canton, Ohio and moved to Schylurville, N.Y. as a child. His family then moved to Fort Edward, N.Y.

Robert graduated from Hudson Falls School with the class of 1957.

He was predeceased by his parents, Ernest R. and Marjorie I. Jacob of Fort Edward, N.Y.

Robert entered the military as was a Technician for the United States Navy for 20 years and retired as Senior Chief.

Following the Navy, he was employed with the Navy Undersea Warfare Center in Newport, R.I., retiring after 26 and one half years of service in 2005.

Robert was a member of the Ledyard Sportsman Club. His hobbies included carpentry work, his model boats which he proudly displayed in their home, along with the ability to fix anything that needed repair. It was always said if one can't fix something, take it to Jake. His Navy buddies always said, they don't make men like Jake anymore.

He leaves his son, Paul Jacob of Griswold, along with two grandsons, Blaine Aaron Jacob of Griswold and Tyler Joseph Jacob Reissner of North Stonington; his aunt, Betty Lou Mathis of Latham, N.Y.; his beloved companion of thirteen years, Patricia Guyette Hensler and her family; and his longtime close friend, Mark Carlson of Griswold.

There will be three Navy reunions in May for the Submarines that he was aboard and will be honored with the ringing of the bells.

Funeral services and burial are private at his request, there are no calling hours. Robert will be buried at sea with his parents off the coast of Mystic at a later date.

In memory of Robert, donations may be made to The William W. Backus Hospital, www.backushospital.org.

My deepest sympathies as Bob is accepted into the arms of God. My ask of mankind is that the males would man up as well as this man approached life.
He will reside forever in the hearts of those he touched.

What can we say about BOB? Or Sweet Robert as he laughingy called himself. When we moved to CT from FL he and Pat were the first to welcome us to the neighborhood and our friendship grew from there. He took pity on the stupid FL people and taught us to survive the cold. To spite his rough outwardly appearance his compassion and generosity were incredible. We would here the tractor coming down the driveway and it was Bob coming to visit with an Extra Gold Beer in each pocket for us and one in hand for himself. If you need anything Bob and Pat are the first to help. If there is one thing Pat can be reassured is that Bob loved and adored his Missy P. There will always be a place missing in our hearts and neighborhood. May you rest in peace SWEET ROBERT.
We Love You

Jake or "Chief" as we sometimes referred to him, will be greatly missed by myself and my little sister. I wish we had, had time to express to him how grateful we are for making our mom the happiest we had seen her in many years. I know she will miss you dearly and will be looking forward to seeing you again someday. You will always be dear to our hearts.
Love,
Kelly

Jake worked for me @ Nuwc from the being of his civilan carreer. He never once said in his 26 years no or I can't get it completed from the least signatent task to going to the North-Pole in the middle of winter with only a phone from me that he was need there ASAP! He truely had my blindsind side covered from day one! That is what a real man and friend DOES!
For that I say Aloha & BRAVO ZULU to my dear friend "JAKE"
