Robert Shortman Obituary
Born in Pawcatuck, he was a son of the late Simeon and Helen Shortman.
The owner and operator of Seafood Etc., Robert spent many years on the water, both lobstering and fishing. He was one of the area's first owners of a fiberglass fishing boat. Bob also enjoyed reading and was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Timothy Shortman of Westerly and Todd Shortman of Pawcatuck; four daughters, Diane Harkness and Patricia Wright, both of Westerly, Nancy Richmond of South Kingstown. R.I., and Sharon Clachrie of Pawcatuck; and two step sons, Steven Keeler of Westerly and Scott Keeler of Ledyard. In addition, Robert leaves four siblings, Arthur Shortman of North Stonington, Donald Shortman of Arizona, Claire Broline of Pawcatuck, and Janet Mearns of Westerly; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his former wife, Joan (Pont) Shortman.
He was predeceased by three children, Robert and Brian Shortman, and Janice Bailey; a stepdaughter, Laurie Benshoof; and seven siblings, John, Kenneth, Gordon, Simeon, and Carolyn Shortman, Virginia Lowe, and Mary Maderia.
Visiting hours will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. Funeral service and burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

Although I never knew Robert, I do have ties to the Clachrie family, and wish to express my condolences to the Shortman family. Robert lived a full and active life and that is an accomplishment. We will remember him in the family history.

Our condolences for the Shortman family, especially to Arthur, our neighbor...Arthur it is easy to see that Robert was your brother;... and to Claire who I went to elementary school with in North Stonington.
May time leave only the good memories.
We have enjoyed a great deal of seafood from Seafood Etc. and always, every bite was a taste treat and the service was excellent!! Thank you to all the family members that made that happen.

Our Heartfely Sympathies and Condolences to the entire Shortman Family. We lived next to the Shortman's on Pleasant Street (Northend) and enjoyed the Family as well as Bob Sr. I lobstered with him and built Pots along side of Bob Jr. Bob Sr. will be sorely missed.
