Stanley Purwinis Obituary
He was born in Nashua, N.H., Jan. 26, 1922, to the late Anna (Matazinskas) Purwinis and Nikodem Pirvinev.
Stanley graduated from Nashua High School in 1939. Despite having lost hearing in one ear due to a childhood accident, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served as a 1st Lieutenant in the 450th Bomb Group from 1942-1946. He flew 35 missions over Europe as a bombardier/navigator in B-24 Liberators. He was awarded the Air Medal with three Oak Clusters for distinguished service and the Distinguished Flying Cross for performance in "Lone Wolf' missions over Innsbruck, Austria and Regensburg, Germany in 1944. Following his service, he earned a Bachelor of Science in business management from the University of New Hampshire.
He met and married Theresa P. Gervais in 1952, and they were happily married for 65 years.
Stanley was employed as the vice president of G.N. Papers in Taftville, from 1960-1970. He was the business manager of the Norwich Board of Education, retiring from that position in 1985.
Stanley was an avid golfer and played for years at the Norwich golf course with his friends that were known as the "Dawn Patrol." He had been a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish since 1962. He was also a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and was a fourth degree Knight.
Stanley is survived by his son, Thomas Purwinis and his wife Dawn (Dawson) Purwinis of Preston; and his granddaughter, Alison Purwinis and her partner, Javier Nuñez of Providence, R.I. He was predeceased by his wife Theresa; a son, Matthew Purwinis; and a grandson, Daniel Purwinis.
A memorial service will be held at noon Friday, Sept. 2, at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Route 12, Gales Ferry.

Remembering Stan as such a soft-spoken caring man. He and his lovely wife were valuable members of the Rose City Senior Center.

I have only known Stan for a few years- since he attended an ACTS retreat. He was a fine man and an inspiration to us in many ways ranging from his military service to his faith. May the Lord welcome him into His loving arms!
