Tony Alfiero Obituary
Tony was born in New London, to Joe and Antonette Alfiero Dec. 17, 1928. He was one of eight children. Growing up in such a large household made Tony resourceful, clever and mechanically inclined; all traits that would serve him well later in life.
Tony married the former Flora Mauro Sept. 2, 1950, and they made their home in Groton for many years. They have two children, Jeffrey and his wife Karen of Nashville, Tenn. and Antonette of Uncasville and her significant other Rick Allen. They survive him. Flora predeceased her husband in 2019.
Tony was a proud Marine who served his country in the Korean War. Upon his honorable discharge, Tony opened Tony's Auto Repair in Groton and served the community proudly as a Saab dealer in the 1960s. In the 1970s, the Alfiero's opened Stonington Subaru on Route 1 in Stonington. Tony fulfilled his lifelong dream of moving to Florida when he and Flora opened Alfiero Chrysler Plymouth Dodge in Palatka, Fla. Tony was a wizard as a businessman and a mechanic. Stories of his electrical, plumbing, and carpentry skills are legendary. A true renaissance man, Tony was a former racecar driver and a private pilot who later in life taught himself to play the piano and dabbled in painting. He educated younger generations with his business acumen and knowledge of the stock market.
In addition to his children, Tony is survived by his brother Joseph Alfiero of Palm Coast, Fla. Tony will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Dr. Elizabeth Lamperelli and her fiancé Dr. James Tipton, Christopher Lamperelli and his fiancée Julia Evola, and Attorney Timothy Lamperelli all of Connecticut as well as Antonio Alfiero and Lexie McFadden of Tennessee. Tony was predeceased by his brothers, Jasper, Johnny, and George; and his sisters, Nettie, Nancy, and Rosalie. He will be fondly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a graveside service at 11:30 a.m. Friday, March 22, at Saint Mary's Cemetery in New London. There are no calling hours.
