So long everybody! I'm headed for a new adventure. If I can figure out the trick, I'll send back a post card, or something. In any case, stay alert, be on the lookout.
I wish I could have lingered a little longer because I really didn't get to finish the "to do" stuff on my life list. But I did put quite a dent in it. I started out by arriving here on Earth right in the middle of the Great Depression, later followed by the incredible experience of World War II. As a kid, I lovingly raised a passel of beautiful little animals, and throughout my life helped many animals in the wild regain their freedom and their health; proudly owned a great, branded western work horse named Toby; learned and loved to operate not only automobiles but also trucks, busses, snow plows and earth moving equipment; graduated from the University of Connecticut (and still root for our great UConn teams); in the late 40s, drove with a couple of college buddies in my 1930 Model A Roadster all the way to Niagara Falls - WOW!; proudly worked for the U.S. government in magnificent Washington D.C. for about seven years; motored around the breathtaking Gaspe Peninsula with my sister, Noemi, in my old Jeepster; sailed the great Atlantic in the wonderful old cruise ships Maasdam and Leonard da Vinci and spent a couple of years in Europe, including visiting the beautiful Italian Dolomite mountain valley where my father was born; drove the old Jeepster coast to coast all around the U.S. taking in all the sights; participated in numerous camping horseback trail rides in our spectacular Rocky Mountains; played out my "Jack London fantasies" by learning to drive sled dogs across the frozen Alaskan wilderness, in the dead of winter (and brought home a one month old baby sled dog for a souvenir - better than a picture place!); spent some time traveling the Far East; became a teacher for 29 years in the town of Stonington; sailed to the exact location where the Titanic met its doom and paid my respects while floating there above its remains; traveled to the Canadian Arctic and Greenland with my great niece, Nizhoni, where we encountered polar bears in the wild, up close and personal, and glided, touching close, among breathtaking, gigantic icebergs; became a long time season ticket holder of the New England Patriots (and made it to three Super Bowls, all in New Orleans, including our first S.B. win); reveled in photographic activities my entire life; and yes, fulfilled a lifelong passion by learning to fly, especially those tired old World War II planes (like me). Except for the stinging sadness of losing so many beloved people along the way, all in all, I had quite a run!
So, I wish good luck, happy and rewarding life, and love to all my friends and relatives, most especially much love to my niece, Vilma Gregoropoulos, my great niece, Nizhoni Brown, and my great nephew, Noah Brown. Without these three, the quality of the last years of my life would not have been possible. And special thanks and love to my cousin, Joanne Fontanella who always stood ready to help and never turned me down. Ciao, tutti!!
If you wold like to honor my memory, while simultaneously helping my marvelous, beloved little hometown, please send a contribution to the North Stonington Grange or to the Wheeler School and Library, where I was once a high school student. Thank you.

I had no idea she lead such a facinating life!! I think she is up there catching up with my grandmother, Mary Vogelsag, who had a tremendous respect for Vilma after working in the school system many years together.

Vilma, You were my idol and inspiration as a child and throughout life. Your courage and determination to accomplish so much has helped me to try and live the same way. I wish I could have seen you in the past few years, and I hope you know how often I thought of you despite my physical absence. Summers in Niantic, Mystic and Stonington were the rock foundations of my childhood. Thank you so much for everything. Earth is less beautiful without you and the heavens are lucky. I love you and miss you.

Miss Carocari was my geometry teacher in middle school. I will never forget her endearing quirkiness and how dedicated she was as a teacher. What a wonderful obituary. I'm so glad to know that she had such a full and fascinating life!
Rest in peace.

I was privileged to have had her as a math teacher for two years in Mystic Junior High. She was a very enthusiastic teacher. I remember her teaching us how to draw boats on the projector. I am sad to see her gone, but not forgotten. May she find rest in the arms of Jesus.

Miss Carcari ( Vilma I can call you that now, I'm an adult) I was just telling my daughter about the "The Muppet Show" lunchbox you brought to school, the combat boots and fatigues you wore. Driving to school on your motorcycle. When I think of you it always brings a smile. You are priceless!! RIP.

The best day in her class was when she shared her Alaskan slides and her dog. The day made her seem more human to me in a class I barely survived.
My biggest memory of 9th grade (same year as alien skip day) is the Friday Afternoon Bomb Scares which always seemed to be in the middle of one of her tests... returning back to class she'd say "tear 'em up" and we'd get a new test Monday morning. She put up with a lot that year. :)
Best close up in Mystic Pizza or any movie.
I am sure her journey continues...

V. Carocari was my fifth and sixth grade teacher in Old Mystic. She received a grant to buy equipment (Kodak super 8's!!) for us to make a movie... We researched the local maritime history and put it together.
It was a big deal at the time.....
She was one of the best teachers I ever had, glad to see she still has a sense of humor! All my love to her family.

I don't believe I was ever one of her favorites, but she certainly instilled a great deal of "Math Smarts" in this struggling math student at Mystic JHS in the '70's. I later became a experienced banker in Washington,DC for over twenty years, as well as the hospitality industry. Thanking you for the "memories".

Oh, Vilma! Once I got used to you...I just loved you to pieces :) You had a sense of humor that kept up with the times. I will never forget sitting on your bed at L&M and listening to all of your crazy stories and your gossip of the day. You were a stubborn lil' thing, but sooooo loveable! You will be remembered and missed~ half pint. Love always, Jasmine Perkins

I struggled through Alegbra at Mystic Junior High with Ms. Carocari. I remember when the other 9th grade class had a "skip" day. Ms. Carocari requested all those students to come in with notes from their parents explaining their absences that day. One student had her mom write a note that she was "abducted by aliens". Ms. Carocari was a vibrant, compassionate woman and an amazing teacher. She was also a movie star, having appeared as an extra in the movie "Mystic Pizza." May she rest in peace and enjoy the new life she enters.

She was amazing and will be greatly missed for sure. I always enjoyed the times that I got to spend with her and marveled at all the neat things that she possessed, especially her train set.
I had always felt a special connection to her and her family and cherished that. I am glad that she accomplished the many adventures that she longed for, and wish that she could be here for more, but I guess that her work was done and she was called home. Good job Aunt Vi! I will miss you.

I had Ms. Carocari at Mystic Junior as my math teacher. She brought out my math strength in which she proudly moved up a grade but said she would miss me in her own little way. I always remember seeing her drive up everyday in her green jeep brought a smile to my young face...even her motorcycle, that was cool. She was a cool woman who I thank for what I have become today. A girl who earned her masters in education and teaching high school math from East Coast to the West Coast. I am very grateful to you Ms. Carocari for giving me confidence, courage, and strength in my ability as a student. You inspired many many many people along your journey. Your next journey believe you are doing the same.

I worked with Vilma at Mystic Middle School. She was a wonderful teacher and person. I will never forget the time she took me with her to a Patriot' s game, and brought a flask to keep us warm. I also remember when she brought back from Alaska her beloved Jack London pup. I would see her every year at the North Stonington Fair and she would always ask if I was still teaching and I would say Yes. Vilma was truly a great person with a very big heart. I will miss her and may she be in heaven playing with her dogs and talking with her mother and father

Ms. Carocari was one of my favorite teachers at Mystic Jr. High in the 70's. I'll always remember her love for the Patriots (I never understood football as a young girl, but it was obvious she was crazy about that team!), as well as her telling us, "Show me the proof!" on our math homework. She was an excellent teacher, and instilled a love of math in me from a young age.

She was my math teacher at Mystic Junior High. I remember a bonus question on one math test was...What does the O.J in O.J. Simpson stand for?
Her obit. reminded me so much of her. I hope her adventures live on in the memories of us all.

I was never a student of hers but now it seems I missed out on what must have been an incredible experience. Her words of "Goodbye" are beautifully and ingeniously written. To her relatives and friends who will miss her first hand, my thoughts and prayers are with you. I'm sure she will be missed by many people, all across this world. Certainly, she touched many lives in oh, so many ways. "Bon Voyage" Miss Carocari.
