Arturo Martinez Obituary

Arturo "Sonny" Martinez Jr. entered into the arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 15, 2010. Sonny was surrounded by those whom he loved the most, Rosie, his wife of 29 years; daughters, Eileen and Analise; son, Eric; and son-in-law, David. Sonny will be remembered most for his faith and commitment to Christ, and for his example of love for God which was evident to all. Through his deep love for God, he served and impacted his family, his church, and his beloved friends. He fought the good fight and persevered through his illness, always reminding everyone that his strength and peace came from the Lord. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Rosie Martinez; his daughters, Eileen Junior and Analise Martinez; his son, Eric Martinez; and many friends and family. A Celebration of his Life will be held on Thursday, August 19, 2010 at Family Heritage Church (78-998 Miles Ave in La Quinta). Visitation will be from 5:30-6:30 PM, with a service following at 6:30 PM. A service will also be held on Friday, August 20, 2010 at 12:00 PM at Family Heritage Church, with his burial immediately following. The Casillas Family Funeral Home is in charge of all the arrangements.

Rosie and family, my heart goes out to you all. Sal and Sonny had a music relationship with their drumming and golf. The best one though, was as Christian men friends, which was important to both of them. I enjoyed knowing Sonny in church and for awhile as our gardner. They were quite a pair, each with their infectuous smile. I know they are laughing and enjoying the presence of the Lord with their healed bodies. May God contiune to bless you all as you move forward. Love and prayers.

Sonny could truly say, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." Last night's services were a tribute to a true man of God and his family. I am so blessed to work with Rosie and Eileen and to have shared some small part of Sonny's Journey.

Sonny played drums on our worship team years ago at Calvary Chapel, Indio. He was also a great addition to a special 15th year reunion concert we'd done with our old band, "Morningsong" and was a faithful servant in the Lord's service. Sonny has now graduated to a wonderful place we all look forward to. His family will certainly see him again!

Sonny walked into our lives in 2003 shortly after we moved to Sun City Palm Desert from northern California. He landscaped our garden and it was a joy working with him. He was a wonderful man, and he talked so fondly about his wife and children. We were shocked to learn of his untimely passing. The garden that Sonny installed for us has thrived over the years, and a part of him will always stay in our hearts and our garden. Our hearts go out to his grieving family.

Praising the Lord for the gift of Sonny in our lives. Can you just imagine the celebration in heaven? Wonderful. Our love to all of the family. Adjusting to life without Sonny will be arduous, but oh what a reunion we will have in the future!
Loving you all to the moon and back.

Sonny's illness sparked two little prayer warriors in our home. Brennen and Bryce didn't skip a night of praying for him, and now they (we) lift you up in continued prayer for strength and courage in the future. Please know how much you are loved and respected for your hearts and faithfulness. Much love...

My husband and I will think of Sonny everyday we live here in Shadow Hills. Two years ago he did all our landscaping and all the flowers and plants are perfect. Not only was he a great landscaper, but a very honest and giving individual. Please note he will be in our hearts everyday as we look outside and remember all the wonderful things he did for us. Please accept our condolences at this time of your loss.
Sincerely,
Gilda and Irv Kushner
