Barbara Marx Obituary
Rancho Mirage, CA - Barbara Helen Herzog Marx was born August 18, 1934 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and passed away peacefully in her sleep August 16, 2019 in Rancho Mirage, California. Her father was the renowned Midwestern journalist, Howard "Buck" Herzog, and her mother, Lillian, both being from Milwaukee.
Fashion was Barbara's passion, and modeling became her career, working at Gimbel's Department store in Milwaukee and later continuing on when she moved to the desert community permanently in 1987. For many years and various Coachella Valley charities, she and desert resident Marilyn Visel produced runway fashion shows featuring the remarkable Helen Rose collection of original gowns created expressly for major motion pictures of the times by famous couturiers of the times to be worn specifically by the stars of the times.
Barbara has a deceased son, James Autz, and is survived her loving daughter and son-in-law, Susie and Tommy Kostrivas of Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin; granddaughters Elise and Arianna; her husband of 24 years, Bill Marx of Rancho Mirage, CA; and recently she had the joy of uniting with her new great granddaughter, Vivienne Rose.
Barbara's presence may be missed by many, but the memory of her special smile and innate kindness will remain forever.

What a lovely and gracious lady! I am sad to hear of her passing. So enjoyed meeting her and chatting several times over the past few years at AJ's where her talented pianist husband performs. My sympathy to Bill and all her family and friends. She was charming.

My husband, John, and I were lucky enough to get to know Barbara and Bill when they came to our home for a charity fundraiser. Barbara was absolutely lovely. We had a wonderful conversation that night, and she followed up with cards every once in awhile like we were long lost friends. She was gracious and elegant, and a role model for me. I am sad to hear of her passing, but feel very fortunate to have know her.
