Carl Reller Jr. Obituary

Carl Reller Jr., MD

Palm Springs - Carl Raymond Reller Jr., MD, 79, a long time resident of Palm Springs, died July 24, 2019 peacefully at home with his wife and daughter by his side. Carl was born on March 5, 1940 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Bertha and Carl Reller Sr.

Carl graduated from Yale University in 1965 with a medical degree. His residency was in Pediatrics at the University of Minnesota Medical School. Carl moved to Palm Springs, California in 1975 and opened a private practice, Palm Springs Pediatrics.

As a pediatrician, Dr. Reller welcomed multi-generations of children into this world, and lovingly took care of them as they grew up. He was especially good with easing worried mother's minds and created a popular "Owner's Manual" for new moms.

Dr. Reller was on staff at Desert Hospital from 1975 to 2000, serving as Department Head of Pediatrics for eight years, and as an Emeritus staff member since 2000. He was also the Medical Director for Angel View for 34 years, and was a Fellow of American Academy of Pediatrics.

Carl had a life long passion for hiking, photography and, later in life, videography. He and Linda, his best friend and wife of 23 years, loved to explore the world, traveling to all seven continents and more than 60 countries.

Carl will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Linda, and his children Kristin, Scott, Amy, and Betsy and two stepchildren, Danny and Frankie. Carl was predeceased by his daughter Heidi. He will also be remembered by his sister Carol, his brother Gordon, and his 11 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and niece Jennifer.

Those who knew Carl know he disliked being fussed over and would rather give than receive. In lieu of funeral services and flowers, and to honor Carl's character, we ask that all who wish to participate make a donation to ANGEL VIEW (67625 E. Palm Canyon Dr., Ste 7A, Cathedral City, CA 92234) or BOB HOPE USO PALM SPRINGS (210 N. El Cielo Rd., Suite 102, Palm Springs CA 92262).

Dr Reller was my pediatrician when I was a child growing up in the desert. I randomly thought of him today and did a quick Google search, only to discover his passing. The fact that I can remember my pediatrician's name 40 years after the last time I saw him is a testament to the positive impact he had on me. How many kids *want* to go to the doctor's office? I did. Sure, the Pac-Man machine in the waiting room helped, but ultimately it Dr Reller that gave me the lasting memories and encouraged me to go into healthcare as well. He is missed!

I know it's part of being a human being but very sad to see this. I worked in the same office for his partner at that time. One of the best nursing jobs I've ever had and he was a huge part of that.
Lots of laughs with him. A wonderful man and doctor. I'll never forget him.
Condolences to the entire family. This is a big loss.
