CeCe Grant Obituary

CeCe Grant (nee Mary Fisher) one of the desert's venerable entertainers, passed away in Palm Desert, Calif. on Friday, June 4, 2010 after a lengthy illness. Best known for her versatile and distinctive singing style, CeCe had a loyal following for over 30 years. She was 82. CeCe began her singing career in Detroit, Mich., where she was born, grew up and attended school. After traveling and performing across the USA, Canada, Australia and South America, she settled in Los Angeles in 1970. Her talent brought her first to Palm Springs at the Hilton Riviera and then on to becoming a mainstay at several local clubs, including pairing with the great Kitty White at The Spa Hotel. CeCe soon made singing a family affair when she joined talents with her son, vocalist and keyboardist Kevin Henry at the Hungry Tiger in 1983. Wanting to continue her world touring, CeCe once again began to travel the world performing in such alluring places as Japan, Figi, New Zealand and Europe. CeCe is survived by her daughters, Nabeelah Al Ansari (Saudi Arabia) and Ea Robinson (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.); sons, Andrew Henry, Jr. (Detroit, Mich.) and Kevin Henry (Indio, Calif.); ten grandchildren and nine great grand-children; sisters, Vera Wells and Eresteen Williams of Detroit; and brother, Erman Fisher of Phoenix, Ariz., as well as countless friends, fans, and supporters. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM on June 26, 2010 at Indian Wells Hotel, 76611 Hwy 111 in Indian Wells.

Ce Ce was a wonderful singer, whom I had the pleasure to accompany as part of her band when she toured Australia in 1969 at the Savoy Plaza Hotel. She was a lovely person who I am certain will be missed. Peter Whitford Melbourne Australia

To Kevin and all members of Ce Ce's family. I had the pleasure of meeting this lovely lady in Bermuda in 1969, when she performed at the Inverurie (a lovely little guest hotel on the water's edge in Paget). I was Secretary to the owners of the hotel. I have a treasured signed newspaper ad of her appearance as she spent a day with me during her engagement there. At that time I was a Canadian resident, but I am now a widow, lving in the desert here. I have tried many times when visiting from '93 to '99 and again from 2003 to date, to make contact, but no luck. Blessings and peace to each of you.

I treasure the opportunity of being able to work with CeCe for the better part of three years, including the country of Oman and working the cruise ship on the Mediterranean. Wish I could hear the marvelous music she is currently making with the other divas in heaven.

To the family of CeCe Grant:
I had the pleasure of seeing CeCe perform on many occasions and always was amazed at the grace and warmth she had for her audiences. Only a person with a love for living would interpret the music so aptly...sensitivity and humor where it belonged.
Her beauty inside, outside and that conveyed in her music touched thousands forever.
She is serenading the angels now...and they, like all of us "can't believe she's a day over 30..." what a beauty.

Kevin
I am sorry to hear of your mother's passing. She was an amazing, gracious lady who had the voice of an angel. It is hard to believe that 25 yrs has passed since I first worked with her at Rancho Las Palmas in Miguel's Lounge. We had some great times back then!! You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.
