Clyde Shaffer Obituary

Clyde Whitson Shaffer

Indian Wells - Clyde Whitson Shaffer of Indian Wells passed away January 21, 2019. Clyde was born January 5, 1933 to George Robert Shaffer and Mary Alice Gray in North Apollo, PA. He was one of seven children. Clyde - known as Dick, Whit, Dad, PapPap or Pappy by his friends and family - married his beautiful bride Flora May Conner (also known as Gig) in 1952. They enjoyed an amazing 67 years together and were blessed with three loving children. Whit served two years in the U.S. Army and had many interesting stories to share from his time served atop the relay station at Mount Salem, Korea. Whit and Gig moved their family to Southern California in 1967, where he ran Ritchie & Associates for more than 50 years. He was active throughout his life and enjoyed motorcycling through the desert, flying his private airplanes, and boating in the Pacific. Whit and Gig then moved to Indian Wells in 1986, where they pursued their love of golf.

Whit is survived by his wife Gig; his children, Cheryl Schwartz (Fred), Clifford Shaffer (Debbie), and Carrie Panico (Paul); four grandchildren and four great grandchildren (with number five on the way). A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, February 16 at 11 a.m. at Palm Desert Community Presbyterian Church on CA-74.
