Rachel Ramirez Obituary

Rachel Munoz Ramirez

Born to Bernardo Muñoz and Aurora Arriola in Banning, CA on August 30, 1931, she passed away in her sleep at her sister Olivia O'Donnell's home in Palm Desert on November 21, 2015. She leaves behind her daughters Christina Rios (Sam), Veronica Emter (Dave), Bernadine Naggs (Tim), eight grandchildren, two great granddaughters, her sister Olivia and many other relatives and friends. Her parents Ben and Aurora, her sisters Alice Norte, Rosalie Kyriss and Gloria, and infant brother Manuel preceded her in passing. Rachel grew up in Indio and attended Lincoln School and Coachella Valley High School. She was married to Henry Siqueiros Ramirez in 1950, and after many years of marriage each went their separate ways while coming together for all family events. She was a strong, resourceful, and independent woman who spent her life working. Her employment was as diverse as her friends. She spent her early years working at the Muñoz Family farm packing tomatoes, later worked in Admissions at Casita Hospital and Indio Community Hospital, social service director at Centro Hispano affiliated with Coachella's Presbyterian Church, director of the Mizell Senior Center of Palm Springs, and other public social service positions. During the last 35 years she worked as a licensed esthetician and worked in many beauty salons, resorts and spas in the Desert Community, but also worked at L'Auberge in Del Mar and La Casa del Zorro in Borrego Springs. Our mother was an excellent cook and hostess of many family gatherings. She carried our family tradition of making homemade tamales during the Christmas season and bringing the family together. Words cannot express the great loss of our mother and grandmother and time will only increase the significance of her life. To all that knew her she was a wonderful conversationalist. She loved to talk to friends and acquaintances on the telephone, and meet someone for lunch, happy hour or dinner. Your friendship to Rachel is so very much appreciated. Thank you for being there for her, especially during the last few months of her life. Please join us in celebrating her life and a Memorial Mass on Thursday, December 17th at 11:00AM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 45-299 Deglet Noor St., Indio, CA.

We always had so much fun when we all got together starting back in the day at my Nina Aurora's house and in Bermuda Dunes the great get togethers with all the family.I will miss her call on the phone to see what I was doing or where I was going! But I guess now see will join the big party in heaven and let me tell you she will tell them how it is or going to be!Thoughts and prayers are with you all and I am here for anything you need. I know she and Rosalie will be fussing about who is going to cook what!
