It is always sad when a friend passes but it is especially so when he was a boyhood friend. "Bugs", as he was affectionately called by those with whom he grew up with in Pittsburgh, was also a schoolmate at Central Catholic and St. Francis as well my a fraternity brother. Unfortunately we had not seem each other since the early '60 when we both left Pgh eventually settling on opposite coasts. As my memories of "Bugs" (don't think I ever called him Bob) go back nearly 60 yrs I can still recall many special moments we shared as teenagers playing sports or just hanging out. I regret not having the opportunity to remininse with him one more time and can only extend my heartfelt condolences to Mary and his family.

Mary and Scott,
As a buyer for Costco for 23 years I had the pleasure of working with Bobby for 4 years, and developed a friendship and respect for Bobby that lasted long after I left the dept.
As a new buyer to the textile industry Bobby took me under his wing and educated me and was always available for advise or to bounce off new ideas.
Bobby and I shared several common interests, our love of Ireland was only the begining.
Bobby was one of those rare people that touched my life briefly but will be in my heart forever.
He will truely be missed by myself and all the buyers at Costco who had the pleasure of working with Bobby.
With Depest Sympathy,
Kathy

Hi Mary,
I was so sad to hear about the passing of Bob. I had the pleasure of him selling to me at the beginning of my retailing career in Omaha some 40 years ago. I had the good luck to work with him through Jim Ryan over the last 8 years and he truely was a "gem". We had a lot of fun together over the years and had a good conversation in January when I ran into him at Heimtex in Frankfurt.
You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers during the coming difficult months.
Sincerely,
Ron Swain

Mary,
My heartfelt condolences to your family. Bob was always a joy to be with. As a young man starting in the towel business, I worked for Bob 23 years ago and still consider him to be one of the best at what he did. Sales meetings at the desert were great fun and some work. Thanks for everything!!

Dear Mary;
It's taken me several days to get to the point of writing to you. I think I was terribly shocked about Bob's passing. He has been in the "picture" for so many years. Desert Horizons, Montreux, Desert Horizons again. He was a wonderfully fun and warm person. He never failed to speak to me, whether it was walking outside, or in the clubhouse. And, he was so very kind and mentoring to my son Dave, who was delighted to know Bobby. He was so wise, and generous and always had an interest in everyone and every cause. I know he was so very proud of you with all you have given to the city of Indian Wells. I will keep you and Bobby in my thoughts and prayers. I am so glad to have known Bob Roche.

Mrs. Roche,
I only met you once and knew Bobby only thru the Marine Corps League.
He was a charming, happy guy and even though he barely knew me, he generously offered to help me with a MCL project I was working on.
It was great talking "Marine talk" with him.
My sincere condolences to you and the rest of your family.

Mary,
You have my sympathy and my prayers. My friendship with Bobby began at Sacred Heart GS and continued thru Central Catholic HS. I had not made contact with Bobby for many years until a mutual friend Father O'Malley told me Bobby was living in IW. My wife and I visited IW and had lunch with you and Bobby. I also played golf with Bobby . Bobby was the same happy, smiling, friendly guy that I met many years ago. Bobby will be missed by all who knew him.

Mary,
I was very sorry to hear of Bob's passing.
He was a mentor to me for many years and I will always be grateful that he made the decision to hire me at Franco 27 years ago and give me my start in the Home Textiles industry.
He always believed in doing whatever he could for his "boys" and gave me the support and guidance that I needed to succeed.
I'm not sure where I'd be in my career today without him, but I know one thing, I would not have had the opportunity to get to know such a fine man.
He will truly be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

We have lost a great human being and my wife and I are deeply saddened by Bob's passing. I first met Bob in Washington DC in 1958 and the laughing began.....I loved his sense of humor and cherished his company. One of his favorite expressions was"....you gotta loosen up." Then we would laugh and have a drink as we did many times over the years. May God bless Bob Roche....a most unique and wonderful person.

Mary,
Though you and I have never met, I felt compelled to write an entry in this book to let you know what a wonderful person Bob was.
I first met Bob 20+ years ago in the home textile business and our paths would cross every now and then, throughout the years. Bob was always there with his wonderful smile, a "can do" attitude, an unmatched level of professionalism, and to top it all off, a warm heart and soul. Did I mention that he was also savvy, smart and astute? All of this was all wrapped in a wonderful package known as Bob Roche. I will miss him, his business associates will miss him, and the industry will never be the same, he was a true gem.
My prayers and blessing go out to you.

Bobby Roche was a treasure to know as a friend. Devoted to his family, his community, his God, and his country. When you mentioned the name Bob Roche it became synonomous with United States Marine. Bob loved his country and he loved his fellow Marines. His heart was big and generous. He shared of himself in so many ways that people would never know and that is what Bob wanted. Bob, you left a long shadow behind that few will ever match on this earth. Your smile said it all and it will be missed very much. The memory of knowing you will linger until the doors of eternity are open for us left behind. Knowing you and sharing your friendship has made life better for us all. Rest in peace Bob.
